Snowkiting Calhoun

Got in a nice light wind session at Nokomis yesterday. Snow was < 1 inch mostly unattached to ice but was Ok with snowboard and DIY switchblade.

Planning on trying Calhoun this afternoon and possibly tomorrow.

Re: Mille Lacs Kite Crossing March 6-8

Nice photo! Watch that updraft on the monument  Technically it's a no fly-zone, but been ninja-kiting there for 10 years. Updraft is not a major concern. It's the downdraft from Marine One and other helis. Although they make nice wind machine when they land  Marine One: http://fbcdn...

Re: Flysurfer Peak2

We got lucky last year but not much snow this year yet. Supposed to be in the 50s this weekend so still nice to get out on the water.

Yes, some kiting buddies and I will be at Mille Lacs XC this year.

Re: Calhoun

Nice at Calhoun. 4 kites up. 3-4 inches of snow, gusty and shifty SW-NW but manageable.

Re: Flysurfer Peak2

I have a 9M Peak 1 and recently the 12M Peak 2. Both awesome low end kites and the easiest kite to launch and land. I can landboard or snowkite in 5kts with the 12m. Peak2 is better than 1 for jumping and freestyle although not as easy as The FS speed or Ozone Summit. Due to higher aspect the 12m ti...

Re: San Diego Kiteboarding???

Slim chance for water session, but landboarding is awesome. It's allowed at ocean beach during off season. At low tide you can go 2miles up and down the beach with little wind. You can landboard on fiesta island too depending on wind direction.

Re: Mille Lacs Kite Crossing 2015 info?

Thanks Rob. Have not done the crossing on ice so looking forward to it. Did it a long time ago on windsurfer when I lived in MN. Bringing both small LEI and large foils. Playing around with Flysurfer Peak 9m and Speed 3 dlx 15m for light wind. Also tried a buddy chrono 15 last weekend landboarding i...

Just got back from WB. Crusty and icy but decent wind. Nicely powered on Neo 8M. A few other riders are still out there.

Thanks for the info. Flying in tomorrow and was hoping to hit Waconia in the afternoon, but the forecast doesn't look too good. I think I'll pack the landboard too just in case it doesn't work out on the water.

Visiting MN

I'm vacationing from Washington, DC and bringing my LF 136 and TD2 11M and was wondering if I can get advice on local sites. I'll be in Eagan this Thursday and Friday and then heading to SW MN til Sunday and then up to Duluth. I windsurf in MN during the 80's and 90's and left when the milfoil was t...
