Re: New Years Snowkite Rally-Canceled

Katie -- the Northern Inn is a nice little motel. Nothing fancy but well kept and reasonably priced. We've had friends who are allergic to our cats stay there.

I haven't been by Mille Lacs for a couple weeks so can't comment on the snow conditions.

Re: Milly Today

I stopped by Father Hennepin around 1:00 to check it out but the temp was 36 --- too cold for me alone. The wind was howling and the lake a frothy white with spray blowing into the picnic area. Just off the point waves were crashing in multiple directions and furthur out they didn't seem to be keepi...

Re: What type of life jacket works best?

Mark -- I have the high hook Neil Pryde like Tom. I use a waist harness and have no problems with the jacket getting in the way. I love it and never kite without it. Isthmus sailboards in Madison carried them last year. As I recall, they are not a coast guard approved life jacket but do pass the Eur...

Re: NEWCASTLE'S DISEASE vs. LAKE ACCESS

http://news.dnr.state.mn.us/index.php/2008/09/10/watch-for-island-closings-caused-by-newcastle-disease/ Here's a link to the news release I found from the DNR. It sounds like testing for birds around Mille Lacs are pending and no decisions about control have been made yet. The virus can live extende...

Re: Valve fix

Every valve on my 2006 10M TD started to leak around the base recently. Rather than buy new bladders or replace them all with the stick-on airtime valves I cheeped out and ran a 1/2 in bead of aquaseal around the edge of all the valve bases. It held air and flew great all weekend. Hopefully it's a l...

Experimental looks good to me. Anna is back to teaching this week so won't be there. I haven't talked to Eric yet. Looks like Reddy around noon.

Re: coming unglued

Thanks guys --- I'll certainly avoid the hot car issue from now on, though I thought the newer glues and adhesives would have overcome that. I've used one of the airtime stick-on valves before and it did work great. I may have screwed myself by resorting to aquaseal first. Maybe it will come off wit...

coming unglued

My beloved 10M TD finally let me down. While flying at Malmo it began to flicker at the tip , followed by collapsing on one end or the other when attempting to sine, to total deflation of the leading edge while still in the air. Needless to say --- it didn't fly very well or for very long. Earlier t...

oops --- just noticed that I got my east and west reversed in the above directions. It should read : Scott's directions are for heading east on 27 from Onamia toward Wahkon. Heading west from Isle take 27 through Wahkon, then 1/4 mile past "downtown" look for signs for county 23 or Higbee'...

Re: Millacs Sunday 6-29

Sorry I missed the session in Wahkon bay. You were at the beach locally know as bare-ass beach. There's only room for 6-8 cars and it can be crowded on windless warm days with swimmers and partiers. I've kited and windsurfed out of there multiple times and found nice rollers if you can work your way...

Re: Windsurfing in Albert Lea

Luke and I windsurfed Helmer Myre some 12-15 years ago. We launched at the wide part of the lake just before entering the campground. All went well until we blew our jibes and discovered that farthur out the water was only 2 feet deep then your feet sunk into bottomless muck which, when disturbed, s...
