Re: The Sea was Angry on Wensday my friends...

Strange how the rain flattened the waves and chop without killing the wind. Agree with Eric that it looked "otherworldly".
Felt like I was obliterating my personal speed record on my last run, but my impression was wrong. The old record stands!

Quetzalcoatl - sorry 'bout my delayed response. The anemometer is yours. Free of charge. Happy to pass it on to someone who will use it. Can be picked up, on any good wind day, at Waconia. (The Deviator already claimed by another sailor.) Binx

Message To Quetzalcoatl

Quetzalcoatl -

I, for one, was hoping to see you at the swap. Was looking forward to meeting the guy responsible for most of the recent Lakawa posts. You're single-handedly keeping the forum alive. Binx

Would also like to squeeze in one more session. (December in MN?) Did you find out whether water is open near the DNR landing?

Re: The multiple mistakes of Mr. Silver Helmet, poor form at

I hit the WAC early in the day (10/7) and was hangin' out at the windsurfers' launch trying to figure out what to rig. A kiter (Mr. SH as he's come to be known) had run his lines along the water's edge and appeared to be totally perplexed by the tangle. I'm a windsurfer and know VERY little about ki...

Re: Tapping the Weather Knowledge of Tighe, Stroh and Kevin

Jon - I checked out the NOAA RUC link you provided. I don't understand the labeling system provided for each forecast. For example: 2-hr fcst valid 02-Aug-11 08:00Z Is this a forecast for wind that can be expected for 2 hours starting at 08:00? For 2 hours until 08:00? :?: Can't appreciate the signi...

Just to be clear, by "pole-boarding" I mean windsurfing. Not stand-up paddling. Thnx. B

ESE Wind on The Wac? Wayzata Bay on Minnetonka?

Possible to pole-board with ESE winds on Waconia? Am relatively new to the sport and don't have any experience with ESE winds on that lake.

What about Wayzata Bay on Minnetonka? I've never seen anyone pole-boarding there tho it looks to be good for ESE winds. TIA for any advice. Binx

Re: Sad Guy Has Repair Questions About Broken Carbon Boom

<<Find some aluminum or carbon tubing that fits snugly inside your spars.>> JRN - thanks for the good advice. Am happy to hear that your repair has held for 7 years. My original thought was to use an external sleeve much like the collars used in copper tubing for water lines. I'm no engineer, but co...

Sad Guy Has Repair Questions About Broken Carbon Boom

Snapped my Fiberspar carbon boom, on both sides, midway between the mast clamp and the adjustment collars. The breaks occurred on the straight section of the tubes, aft of the curve. (Tail of boom okay.) Is it possible to repair this boom? Maybe an aluminum or carbon "collar" overlapping t...

Newbie Q: SE Winds - Waconia or Washington?

Newbie windsurfer wants to know:

How's Lake Washington with SE winds?

How about Waconia?

Which lake is the better choice for SE winds?

Thanks.

Couple More Newbie Questions

1. Anybody have the DVD, "INTUITION: GYBING & CORE SKILLS" by Guy Cribb? Care to loan, rent, or sell it? 2. Noticed that there was a "Long Board" category in the Midwest Speed Quest. What are Long Boards? Are these the boards from the 80s that have dagger boards? Thanks again...

Re: Newbie Question About Riding Overpowered

My board is a 161L Carve. Sail was a 9.5 Ezzy Infinity with cams in place. Based on my experiences that day, I'm thinking Chip's explanation of "the draft in the sail moving aft" nails the problem. I had no problems planing on the big board/sail when the wind was right. It was only when th...

Newbie Question About Riding Overpowered

Got a newbie question for those of you with more experience. When windsurfing overpowered I cannot prevent my board from rounding-up. This only happens when significantly overpowered. I'm guessing sheeting out would help, but I can't sheet out 'cause I'm hiked out for full leverage against the sail....

Re: Washington vs Waconia

Thanks to all for the good advice. Took a vacation day on Friday and drove all the way out to Washington. I couldn't believe how nice it was. Strong, unimpeded, steady wind from the south. Looked like my 7.0, or even a 6.5, would have been perfect. Never found out, though, since I left my fin screws...

I'm a newcomer to windsurfing and have no experience sailing Washington or Waconia. I want to try one or the other tomorrow.

NOAA forecast is showing winds out of the South for Friday. Which lake would you recommend? TIA for any advice. Binx

What's The Deal With Lake Minnetonka?

Seems to this newbie that Lake Minnetonka is unpopular w/ the windsurfers. Why? (Winter kiters seem to like it.) Is it lack of user-friendly rig or launch sites? Squirrely winds? Weeds? Is it the big boats? Too many boats? Any reason I should avoid Minnetonka? Anyone sail regularly on Minnetonka?
