ESE Wind on The Wac? Wayzata Bay on Minnetonka?

Post by Binx »

Possible to pole-board with ESE winds on Waconia? Am relatively new to the sport and don't have any experience with ESE winds on that lake.

What about Wayzata Bay on Minnetonka? I've never seen anyone pole-boarding there tho it looks to be good for ESE winds. TIA for any advice. Binx

Just to be clear, by "pole-boarding" I mean windsurfing. Not stand-up paddling. Thnx. B

Binx - assuming that you're talking about windsurfing, Wac is not much good for easterly winds. It's gonna be blowing off shore and hard to launch. The DNR boat launch on the corner of the lake closest to St. Boni is good for just about any wind direction with some west in it. The public beach on the SE corner of the lake will work for NE wind, but I'd only launch there in the spring or fall when there aren't swimmers and little kids at the beach. There is supposed to be a launch on the NW corner of the lake; I have never launched there. I have heard that parking is very limited there and it may be private land.

As far as Tonka goes, it is so popular with power boaters, that I think the general consensus is that it's just not very safe for us small wind powered riders in the summer. That said, I have seen pole benders riding out of the public park in Excelsior.
