Anyone know of a good resource for determining ice thickness on city lakes? Just trying to figure out when it is no longer safe to be out on Calhoun.

I took my Geo Metro out on the ice to Kite Island last Friday via the north shore of Wayzata Bay. Luckily I didn't get stuck...I plan on heading out there again tomorrow but don't think the Rusty Jellybean will make it through all the fresh powder. I am considering driving out on the ice, tethering my harness to the hitch of my car and flying my 14m Slingshot T2. Good idea? Bad idea? Basically, I just want to get more comfortable flying the kite, without it dragging me across the ice...
