Anyone know of a good resource for determining ice thickness on city lakes? Just trying to figure out when it is no longer safe to be out on Calhoun.
Thanks!

Re: Ice thickness on city lakes
I am not aware of anything for ice thickness. I would think the DNR or Sheriffs would not want to ever give an indication of perceived safe/not safe for liability reasons. Spots on Tonka still have 2 feet of ice if it’s any help……
Re: Ice thickness on city lakes
Stopped by an ice fisherman tonite on the north side of waconia. He said about two feet as well. He was on a four wheeler and said there was a car out yesterday. Surface was schweet too. Effortless edging on my board even with the big wind. Hope to get some more!
Re: Ice thickness on city lakes
Had an awesome session on Calhoun yesterday on Snowfer with windsurfing rig. 3 or 4 Kiters appeared to be having a blast too. I'm considering taking the afternoon off for what may be the last day on ice. Wondering just how soft and slushy it is though.

I WOULD RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING: Befriending a pair of 300# identical sumo wrestling twins. Have them preceed you onto the lake. At the 1st sign of the ice giving way, turn & run for shore. Hope that helps! Enjoy the season.
