Snowkiting WBL 01.13.2011 video

Post by berken »

Last week I headed out to WBL for a post snowkiting 101 session, what a blast! Thanks again Mike for walking me through my gear.

All of the time and money I have spent researching gear, watching instructional DVDs and taking lessons has finally paid off...I'm so stoked!

Hopefully the winds are up again this weekend.

Berken - congrats on getting going! Love the yellow kite. All kites should be yellow and orange.

You might end up wanting/needing a pair of "winter" lead lines for your T2. They are grey and made of spectra line - you can order some from Slinghot's online site. The little plastic tubes can get brittle in the colder temps (zero or so and below), they break, and the leader line tends to bind up and eventually not work. No big hurry, but just pay attention to the braiding to make sure that it is still tight.

Last I looked they stock the winter lines down at Midwest. They aren't labeled winter lines, just Leader lines. Just to be clear the standard leader lines that come with these kites have a plastic tube and sheath over the flying lines. When flying in super cold conditions the plastic tube may break as it goes through the pull, but I have never heard of the flying line breaking inside. You can fly it with the tube broken but the segments of plastic going though the pulley can feel a bit odd. Many just switch to the grey leader lines for year round use.

Midwest Mountaineering carries them not sure about other retailers
