Gloves Left on Tonka
Hello Fellow Kiters - I believe that I left a pair of black Dakine Gloves at Kite Island two weeks ago on Sat Feb 21. Must have left them on the ice while packing the car. If anybody came upon them I'd appreciate them back. I am not riding in the crossing this wknd but will be in the area and could ...

Re: Winterizing My Dump Valve
My dump valves have the same problem and I am nursing a tear in one right now that hasn't fully come away. Easy to do in warm weather, but I know it will rip off completely this winter. I'd like to use the same fix you show here. Looking for a bit more detail on how you did it. 1.) Is the valve plug...

Re: The perfect winter or am I a pansy???
Funny....because I had the exact same thoughts this morning. Perfect conditions, but low temps. Not ideal. My wife looked at me and said "What's wrong with you? That never used to stop you." Touche. So I got the gear out and headed to the da Bear. Always great to see others out shredding. ...

Re: Wanted: Terrain Dead or Alive.....
I have been tempted to try out kiting at some of the State Parks that have open prarie landscapes, but have been hesitant due to the off trail nature of that activity. Does any one know what the State Park systems stance is on non motorized human activity off trail....kiting, snowshoeing, CC skiing,...

Re: Wind on Sunday
My cousin and I decided that the wind was good enough to make it worth messing around with the less than ideal snow conditions. Rode the south end of Turtle Lake in Shoreview (ideal for minimal walking) for about an hour before another crew of about 6 came and went throughout the afternoon. Snow was...

Re: Can I bust out my skis yet?
Got out on the bear last night as well, around 8 pm. Launched from Mahtomedi Beach. Good surface for the board and wind for the 10 m, but I was surprised to see I was all by my lonesome.

Re: Sunday, 1/13 @ Medicine Lake
Futahaguro. I have observed from your pics that your spreader bar is attached to your harness in a fashion that most people would consider upside down. Unless you have preference for riding this way I would recommend flipping it over so the hook faces the ice, not the sky.

Re: Tuesday
Ouch...snapping your depower line is certainly not good. I'd like to address the use of ice screws or any fixed point for anchoring a kite. It has been said numerous times on this forum before that fixing a rigged kite to any object that has no give to it can be very dangerous because there is no wa...

Re: Upgrading vs Expanding a quiver
Thanks for the advice so far, but I feel like the heart of my question has not been answered. I know there are a lot of circumstantial details that are required for really answering this question but I always like to work a little broader and make some sweeping generalizations then pick at the detai...

Re: Upgrading vs Expanding a quiver
Here are some critical missing details 1. 165 lb 2. 08' Ozone Insticnt Sport II 3. Ride exclusively on snow with strong intent to ride water eventually. 4. Kiting regularly during the snow season since 2007 (with a childhood of snow, skate, and wakeboarding prior to kiting) I don't want to spark a l...

Upgrading vs Expanding a quiver
I am in the market for a new kite and I can't decide if I should update my current kite with a modern replacement or expand my quiver and add a smaller modern kite. I have been snowkiting exclusively with a 13m inflatable since 2008 and kites have definitely come along way since 08' and at the end o...

Re: Stayin Local This Wknd?
Made it out to ride Calhoun last night from 7-10. I was pretty desperate to get out. This was the only time I have gone all winter and I knew today was going to more or less be the end of the snow season. Great wind speed. Surface was pretty bad maybe an inch of bonded icy stuff with plenty of wind ...

Re: Solution to Broken Pump Handles
Hello all, Finally just got out this morning after a long drought. Pumped up my 13 m with my PVC pump mod and it worked great! Launched out of Mahtomedi and rode WBL from 9:30 - 11:15 am but the wind started to build and I couldn't hold down my 13 m any more so I packed it up. Surface was hard and w...

Re: Solution to Broken Pump Handles
The fix was rather simple because it did not involve me having to re-plumb the inflate port along with the guage. Its location not on the pump handle was the original design. The picture of the old handle shows where the deflate port was but I never used it anyway. I simply left the ends of the new ...

Solution to Broken Pump Handles
Hello all, I was pumping on Sun. after the big Dec. Blizzard and as it inevitably happens to those of us who choose to pump their kites in the winter, SNAP! I broke the manufacturers handle right off and there I was with a partially inflated kite and a pump that was half the pump it used to be. Dete...

Report from Cannon
Hello All, Made it down to Cannon today. Nobody else around kiting the whole day. Despite being next to a major Snowmobile Trail the surface was quite untracked. Wind was South and very gusty had nice deep snow with slush and water underneath which wasn't really a factor unless you stopped. Drove up...

Snow Emergency and Kiting
Hey everyone, We can all appreciate this snow but with it comes snow emergencies. I think there will probably be too much snow for me to take my corolla out on the lake so is it okay to park at public acces point lots like Mahto or turtle. I really do not want to get towed while I am out there riddi...

Severe lack of american representation on PKRA
Hello all, I was spending this windless day browsing all things kiteboarding online and I began to notice something that perhaps somebody could shed some light on. It seems to me that most of the kite MFGs out there are American based companies however taking a look at the world rankings from the PK...

Re: Lovely surprise
Glad you guys all had fun down south, couldn't make the drive, one car and the wife wouldn't make up her mind about the afternoon. Decided to keep it local and buzzed up to Mahtomedi. When I arrived there were zero kites in the sky. I should have taken this as a sign and went home, but I pumped up a...
