Re: How do you handle the mother ( superior ) on a BIG day ?
Sorry I didn’t see this thread earlier – Here’s my 2 cents on launch sites: Classic “northeasters” in Duluth stay pretty much between 40 and 60 degrees. The forecast may be between 20 and even 120 degrees and it may be blowing that up on the hill but the wind on the water will stay in that 40 to 60 ...

Re: Brule-Superior today
Sailed the bay at my house (at 38th on Park Point). Came in for a systems check to see if I was still in one piece. I felt good but figured maybe it would be best to leave the water in good condition rather than waiting to get in trouble. It was good to get out in a good blow.. still waiing for the ...

Re: Big day on the big lake
This is the time somebody should check out portage entry over at Houghton MI in the UP. you can start sailing inside the breakwater which is kind of like the Superior Entry, but sail into the big lake too. Its not unusual to have side/on shore gales with impressive waves. Beach on both sides of the ...

hard to believe, but its now all clear on the beach on Park Point. We had 30 foot hight piles of ice last weekend, and now the beach is clean, wind gusting to 40 (and a wind chill of about 10 degrees)
Get out there and shread!

Sailing with new parts
First time in past several years I haven't been able to get out and enjoy Mother Superior before the end of March. The Park Point beach is solidly buried with 30 high ice "volcano's" as we call them. Looks like it will be a while before they go away too. More importantly, I had my left hip...

Chris-
Jon and I might try the bay at my house Wednesday if I get back to town in time. Not going to be north enought for Port Wing by the sounds of it...
Any luck with the Mother today?

Great day, but not quite as advertised. The wind was a bit fickle. Man is it blowing now though!

Re: Labor Day at Duluth
Guys - This looks to be a once every few years type event. I wouldn't sit this one out if you have a chance to ride it. I would expect the winds on Park Point to probably be running 35 to 40 MPH. Beware that we lost our warm water a few weeks ago. Strong west winds blew all our warm surface water ou...

Re: Grand Marais - Superior
To all you Superior Sailors: The BIGGEST waves you will see on the lake occur from Grand Marais, East in the fall and early winter. I've always wanted to be there when you see those 20-25 foot plus wave forcasts. I suspect you really don't see any of that from shore Second - that nice two day blow w...

Re: Duluth
Must have been Chris.. I tried to get out around 5:30 for about 30 minutes, switched boards but never quite had enough power to get outside, inside was totally dead. Before and after I sailed, the wind was pretty stellar - water temp's not too bad at this point either. Hope you guys had a good time
