WHY LAKAWA MINNESOTA?

QUALITY

In short, we're students of the wind: How to use it, and how to play with it so we can do it again, and again. Harnessing the wind has its challenges, takes time to acquire skills, timing, and choosing the right tools for the elements. One of the first lessons is patience, not an easy ask when the draw to the "ballet" of the activities is so strong. We have learned about the known barriers to entry and refined our program to bypass some simple hurdles (like poor gear selection and size). We've filtered through and selected gear that works in our up-to 100° F summers down to -30° F winters. We've sought after courses and attained certifications in PASA (Professional Air Sports Association) and IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization). We have traveled (and continue) to challenge our skills in surf and snow. We use a broad spectrum of experiences to cater to your success. Where will this actiity take you?

SAFETY

These activities are not age or gender specific. Our goal is to teach you, be your retailer, and get you involved. We are working to take your idea into reality, show you how to enjoy these wonderful outdoor activities, and build your confidence to pursue your own goals. This attention to your progress demands safe entry and guidance. Site selection, proper sized/type of gear, surface conditions, and hourly forecast models are all part of the decisions we teach you. And, we have a comprehensive lesson program! Being safe is what allows us to practice the next day. The community of wind enthusiasts know the challenges and we aim to integrate you so we can all enjoy, and share the wind together. All gear has the equivalent of an EASY OFF: do you know how and when to use it? We do. It's another reason we have riders from 8 years of age into their 80's.

EXPERIENCE

It's what paves the future. We don't just sell the gear, we use it. We use the gear in rain, snow, waves, strong winds, light winds, in racing, and in most importantly folly. You are getting ready to discover activities that can last you a lifetime, any season, anywhere on the planet. We've been fortunate to challenge this through many conditions and many places. Use our collective time since the late 1990's to explore and create your own path. Discover your ride. Inflate it or use a foil, pump it, or get driven through the wind by it, race it on snow or water (debuts in Paris 2024 Olympics), boost/invert/spin with it or simply sail back and forth. You choose the level of play, like riding a bicycle to the park or down a mountain, we look forward to showing you how.

LAKAWA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can anyone learn to kite?
Kiting can be learned by anyone in decent physical shape. With proper instruction and adherence to safety precautions anyone can fly and enjoy kiting. The sport offers many levels of extremes and how far you choose to push it will be up to you. Some prefer to cruise around in light winds very relaxed, others are pushing the envelope each time they go out, jumping higher, trying new tricks etc. It is important to find the path that feels comfortable for you. If you are uncertain, take the Ground School class, we will supply the equipment and you decide if you like it. We are pretty certain, once you fly you will be hooked.
