HISTORY
LAKAWA - Lakes Area Kiting And Windsurf Advisory was born from the wind community of the late 1990's. It started as LAWA - Lakes Area Windsurf Advisory then grew in 2002 to include Kiting - LAKAWA.
The pioneering coordinator Tighe Belden used his Masters in Arts degree from UW - Madison to create the first website and Forum of its kind in the midwest. You can still cruise through the stories of the past in the Community section. You will discover a rich history of storytelling and community sharing of daily wind experiences. It's truly a remarkable documentation from riders of the past and the history from which we came. With the onset of Social Media and it's more simple, robust tools, the forum has stepped back from it's daily teeming. But, it's still there, updated, and ready to be used for when the occasion arises.
The arcs in the logo represent both the Kite from the Kitesurf discipline and the sail in Windsurf discipline. With the recent addition of Winging, it is easy to interchange the imagery now with a wing too. Maybe I should change the name to LAKA-WAWA? 😄MISSION STATEMENT:
To take your vision of these activities into your hands.
