What is the best way to fix ripped sails?

Post by windbeso »

I have seen some use tape, what kind of tape would you recommend?

Some of my sails are old and would like to fix them up myself and not spend much money, and wondering if anyone has any hints to share.

I have used some specific vinal repair tape from the house. It works good. I'm using some now to hold my turn signal on my van. It's weathering nicely.

I use heavy duty 3M packing tape.. as far as I can tell, this stuff is
stronger than the sail. You just have to make sure the sail is
completely dry when you put it on and it will last for years. Make sure
you do both sides of the sail and extend past the ends of the rip.
I like to use those wallpaper tools like the plastic smoothers and
seam rollers to really get the tape to adhere.

Hey, thanks a lot guys. At the swap, a nice man ( forgot his name) gave me some sails with rips in them and said to use as spare parts, but I want to fix up the sail and use them.

So if you see some guy sailing around with a lot of tape on his sail, that will be me.

HAve a good day.

Sail Repair

For a more permanent solution, call Jeff Adamski. He does a beautiful job of repairing sails. He'll fix your sail and then pass you as you're sailing it the next session. He picks up sails at the HOUSE on a regular basis. jn
