Winter Kiteboarding for Cancer Event
I've been in talks with Tonya Farman and the director of the Twin Cities Loppet about doing a Kiteboarding Event to raise money for cancer down on Calhoun the weekend of the Loppet (Feb 2-3). The concept would be similar to the KB4C event in the Gorge last summer which raised $64,000 for Cancer research:
*Triangle ccourse laid out on Calhoun
*Maximum number of laps awarded
*Individual riders would collect donations for their participation. We'd also would work to get corporate donations.
*Considering a 24hours of kiteboarding for cancer...riders must stay on the ice..relay teams. Might be cool to have corporate teams, like a Best Buy team, battling it out against the Target team...battling it out in the ice, raising money for the battle against cancer.
*Considering having other options for going around the course if the wind doesn't blow, skiing, snowshoeing, running, etc.
My mother died of cancer 20 years ago, I want do something to help end this terrible plague.
My question to all of you is, would you participate? I'd like to think we, as the largest snowkiting community in the country, could do great things here. It's going to be a lot of work to put on and I'm also looking to put together a team to make this happen.

I'm in Tighe, let mek now what you have planned, I was just at teh Cancer awareness event this last weekend and walked with my wifes company, maybe we could get corporate sponsors to do the Shirts that we could wear on the outside of our jackets, stuff like that. Feb is coming up pretty quickly, if we could get some kind of flyer going I could present it to my company and Caroline could present it to her Company and maybe get some donations and get them to do Shirts, Teams sounds like a great Idea relay style, that way we could get more beginner's involved that would be able to kite the event too. This is a fantastic Idea Tighe, what a community of kiters we have, just put the idea out there and people just jump right in, awesome. Tighe sounds like you have T.V. ties or have approached the T.V. stations before, i think the Mayor would eat this up!!! If they can have a Hockey game event with the mayors backing I think this would go over big time, especially by doing it for such a great cause!
