Has anyone tried the screws used for holding ice shacks in place? Sold at Scheels...9.95 for a pair. They look basically like a T handled screw with a v shaped cut out down the length of the threads. I bought a bike hook for 78 cents and was going to cut the groove out with a dremel tool. Am I just wasting my time?
I don't know if the bike hook or ice shack things work, but I know a 3/8" lag eye bolt will pull out and put your kite in the trees. Please reply back if your ideas work, I'm looking for a resonable anchor other then $50.00 ice screws.
Get on line...REI, Sierra Trading Post, Mountain Harware, EMS and Midwest, I've never paid more than $20 for an ice screw. You just have to hunt a little.
I tried the ice fishing shack screws. They worked OK in light wind but when a gust hit they bent and pulled out. Maybe if you used two or three at a time. I ordered an ice screw from REI -- it took a week and cost $15 last winter.
How's the ice on Mille Lacs? Yea, I got those same REI titanium ones, but lost 2 last year, so I bought 3 more. I did find, however, that is is very detrimental on both tires & screws to drive over them...NOT RECOMMENDED! JN P.S: Is it totally geeky that we spend 2 pages on the subject of screws?
