Re: Blade 17M kite demo

I'm a firm believer in 17s if you enjoy getting out kiting more often. 2 yrs ago I was in Florida and there were 3 nice steady sea breeze days I had to sit out because the 14m td3 wasn't enough so I was motivated to go bigger. I bought a like new Ozone 17m Zephyr and have really loved that kite. Thi...

Re: How do you handle the mother ( superior ) on a BIG day ?

What is the common denominator that triggers these unfriendly waves. Blowing real hard for over a day, especially way out in the lake?

Re: How do you handle the mother ( superior ) on a BIG day ?

Thanks for the video and post! Mike W, Geo, Barry, and I kited there and we agree those waves were the fastest moving, most closely spaced, and punishing waves I've seen Mother deliver in about 15 trips. The temps were supposed to be 45ish but when we hit the water around noon it was 39 degrees with...

Re: Cannon

7 of us kiters had a great time at Cannon riding 10-11m kites. So warm and sunny! That's two Sunday's in a row we've got rides.

Re: St. Croix open yet?

Yes it was great to get out on the water. Thanks to Mike Winter for scoping it out, Jim for his patience in the assisted launch while we waited for that one puff to get me out of the wind shadow and Geo for making sure I got in. We even got to see the sun come out briefly and the temps were warm. Lo...

Re: White bear right now

Yes I wussed out! I'm proud it! I got a great skate ski this morning before church and needed to help at home get kids around and finish taxes. My wife was kind enough to help but I decided I'd save those favors for better days. The open water looks scary but I do believe at the end of the dock it'd...

Is Superior really open?

This big NEster showed up on 10 day mrf last week. I just happen to look at cams at superior and they show it open by the harbor and a little margarita ice by shore at Solglimit. For you guys up in Duluth - is there a lot of ice out from shore that is likely to be drifting in? I bet 40 mph winds wil...

Kitesurfing in Sandy

I pray the east coast will survive the nasty hurricane/tropical storm. At least one guy is enjoying her wind by Martha's Vineyard. http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c2#/video/bestoftv/2012/10/29/sandy-vo-kite-boarding-massachusetts.cnn We had a nice fall wind season in Sept but the second half of Oct...

Re: WBL Water Level

Thanks for posting that article Dave. On a positive note: 1) Mahtomedi beach is now a much easier kite launch. You could even beach launch it's so low on the right direction. Anyone going there Wednesday? I may hit it. 2) Plenty of room at WW to launch 3) Ramsey beach should be closed for a few more...

Re: Wind forecasting gurus: what do you think about Sat. & S

I agree on Sat winds look strongest at Cannon over to Spirit Lake (ie tight isobars going SW to NE) over Southern part of state. We'll get some nice warm kiteable wind in twin cities from S going SSW. I would not drive to Clear or Mille Lacs tomorrow when there is better more reliable wind closer. T...

Re: Fall Winds have arrived!!

Thanks to John, Brian, and Dean for going to Father Hennepin yesterday. I had an absolute blast riding the waves all afternoon on a Slingshot Celeritas 5'11" that Randy Lindorff let me try. I also got to use my new (used) Rally 10m for the first time. When that kite first went in the air it fel...

May have to wait for later next week (ie Thursday aug 30). As right now the front moving through llater next week looks like it will be farther south to generate more wind.

Thursday 8/16 Looks Windy

Should be the first strong cold front we've had in months on Thursday. It may even line up for Father Hennepin which next to the Mother is some of the best waves in the state. NOAA and ikitesurf are only calling for 11 mph or less but I bet they will change their minds.... Should also be some kiteab...

Re: Duluth Thursday

Wow Superior was rock solid windy. I had a memorable 3 hour session. So cool to come over the hill by Spirit Mtn and see the Mother all lit up with the abundant sun and white water. Barry and I stopped at the tot lot to use the can and I went down to the beach and Randy J and others faces were grinn...

Re: Duluth Thursday

Barry and I aren't in too much of a hurry due to work and when the good wind and waves will arrive so we'll probably hit the water closer to 2:30-3ish.

I looked in my car gps and I had saved the following address which I think is to a cabin just to the north of that public beach on Pelican. Enjoy - Sunday morning looks good from NW and that spot is great on NW. Pelican is such a big nice lake. 27237 Sandy Shores Ln, Merrifield, Crow Wing, Minnesota...

Hmmm... that front may have slowed down so Sunday morning could be great at father hennepin if it sticks to current course.
