Re: Travel Fees

Hi Peter, I am heading down to Cozumel next month and may try to kite a couple of times. Did you take any tours/lessons from the outfits down there or just do your own thing? I contacted the local guy (Ed Holden) mentioned in the Destinations section but he's moving to Hatteras. So I am thinking of ...

Re: Did the fat lady sing?

Was out to Waconia today. The surface was not as soft as Id hoped and the wind was too strong/gusty for the kite I had with me. Not a whole lot of fun so I packed it up after a short ride.

Re: Did the fat lady sing?

I'll have to give credit to Adam from the other post for a couple great sessions. I was out on Waconia both Sunday and Monday afternoons with my snowboard and large kite. Very powered up, fast, and able to hold an edge with my 14m T1. Not choppy at all as icy conditions on a snowboard would be no fu...

Re: New to the community and Kiting

http://www.kitesurfingschool.org/ Here's a site that helped me with the basics. Somewhat old content but mostly still relevant. I studied this and took both a winter and summer lesson. Good move reaching out to people though. I myself am not the most outgoing by nature which did not help my learning...

Re: Calhoun today, 3/13

Thanks for the post Adam! It inspired me to head out to Waconia to at least try to fly a kite. Brought the board and big kite out and it was really good. About a 1/2" of slurpy type slush; very edgeable with a snowboard and pretty fast too. Got even faster as the sun started setting. Standing w...

Re: Is Winter Over???

Anybody know what the conditions are like up on Ottertail? We had a good spring session up there last year. Temps may be a bit lower up there and the moisture has the possibility to be in solid form. Thinking a vacation day for Friday may be in my future.

Spacedog, you up for it?

Re: Saturday

Thanks for the report SeaBoo. Great day out there today except my board needs some wax. Had to throw some rain-x on it which helped a little. You must have been in the group to south of us more towards the city. Some of us started at the boat launch near the state park.

Re: Saturday

Wind forecast does look a bit better to the south. Anybody have a bead on snow conditions for Cannon or Pepin? I saw some pics in the gallery awhile ago and Pepin looks like a cool place to ride. Thanks

Re: Waconia South Beach Parking

https://reservations.co.carver.mn.us/reservations/Vpass_sale.asp Appears to be a carver county parks permit. Not sure what the daily rate is though. I think I'll just be using the DNR area on the northeast side or drive onto the lake from the west. I guess on a North - Northeast wind I'll be heading...

Waconia South Beach Parking

Quick note on parking out at Waconia. A few of us received warnings for not having permits at the south beach area earlier in the week. Apparently this extends to the road by the old dance hall as well. Never had a problem before. I thought the sheriff may have just been enjoying the kite flying whe...

Mille Lacs conditions were good when I was there at the end of the year. Good base and edgeable snow.

Re: Monday afternoon riding...

Rode mille lacs yesterday on my way north. Strong, steady, NW wind at father hennipen. Wind packed powder that was fast and edgeable. I think waconia was a bit deeper on sunday though. Both good spots. For those that were previously concerned about the albino population in the park, rest easy. I saw...

Re: Mille Lacs tomorrow

I will comment on your first question since I am in a similar boat (been snowkiting for 3 seasons, but have not really been successful on the water other than flying and body dragging.) I was up at Reddy yesterday as the reports looked fairly promising, 15-18 mph. Unfortunately for me it didn't real...

Re: Kiteanchor for shallow water use?

Agree with the safety concerns but wouldn't those be mitigated if you only used the anchor for landing and launching. I guess there would be the temptatation to use it for breaks as well as many do on ice.

Kiteanchor for shallow water use?

Has anyone ever explored the use of a kite anchor? Seems like it would be safer than having to drift launch, especially for higher winds. I didn't realize this product could be used submerged until I saw the youtube video below. Seems like a nice setup with the buoy. Any risk to others if this was i...
