Quick note on parking out at Waconia. A few of us received warnings for not having permits at the south beach area earlier in the week. Apparently this extends to the road by the old dance hall as well. Never had a problem before.
I thought the sheriff may have just been enjoying the kite flying when she approached the lot. I'll take a warning though!

I'M CLUELESS. Do we know what kind of permit is required? Is it a DNR deal, park permit, or what? Maybe some of you West -Side riders can clue us in.

Appears to be a carver county parks permit. Not sure what the daily rate is though.
I think I'll just be using the DNR area on the northeast side or drive onto the lake from the west. I guess on a North - Northeast wind I'll be heading to Mtka or elsewhere.
I ran into a similar situation at Father Hennepin. $5 for the day or $20 for the year. Nice place though.

Re: Waconia South Beach Parking
The daily is $5 if I remember correctly. The park is consider part of the Carver park system which also includes Baylor Lake Minnewashta Regional Park
For those wondering what is considered part of the Waconia Beach park, here is a map (pdf) The police officer said that they have acquired the flower shop as well as the next field as well. Also all of old beach road has no parking signs on it.
