Mille Lacs tomorrow

Post by Elkman »

I'm thinking of heading up to Mille Lacs tomorrow for the gathering, but I can only be up there for the day on Friday. (My nephew's birthday party is on Saturday, and then on Sunday I'm leaving for Colorado.)

Is there going to be enough wind for my 11m T3, or will I be sitting around for a while waiting for a gust or a breeze to come up? The forecast says somewhere around 10 to 15 mph, which looks a little low, but I could probably get somewhere on a 15 mph wind.

Is the plan to meet at Malmo, Reddy Creek, or somewhere else?

Also, I still might need a few tips on getting up on the board and getting moving, since I haven't put everything together from my lessons yet. (Maybe I can claim I'm going up there for more lessons, even if I'm not doing anything official, so I can have a better excuse for taking the day off work tomorrow.)

I hope to see you guys up there if everything works out!

I will comment on your first question since I am in a similar boat (been snowkiting for 3 seasons, but have not really been successful on the water other than flying and body dragging.)

I was up at Reddy yesterday as the reports looked fairly promising, 15-18 mph. Unfortunately for me it didn't really pan out and was more like 10 +/- a few. There was a period of about 45 minutes where the wind was maybe 15 but I had my wife playing on the trainer at that time.

I was able to fly and launch my 14m TD but since I am a bigger dude at about 2 bills was only able to ride the board about 150 yards at a time. I think a lighter person with more skill at water riding and keeping the power in the kite probably could have done better.

But I've spent and will spend time at that beach even if I am not kiting so I still had fun. The weather was choice. I also learn things even when the wind is low such as how bad I am at drift launching. Taken lessons and read the posts but still struggling with tangling my outside and inside lines. Must be when I am unwinding the lines? I'll have to keep better attention with the orientation of bar.
