Re: Today or tomorrow?
Hey monkey,
How was Lake Minnetonka compared to Swede in terms of snow cover? I didn't know Wayzata Bay was solid enough--you made it back with your GPS, so it must have been OK! What's the best call tomorrow on the west side? Looking for more snow for my dull snowboard edges!

Re: Today or tomorrow?
So, where is all this stormriding going to take place? Not sure with this due east wind what location and what lake is good to go and works well with this east wind. Any bays on Mtka work and ready--like really, really solid ready? How about Waconia--anybody have good info on how solid that is? ...o...

JRN, I don't think so! It's like THE Jeremy Jones--one of the best snowboarders ever. I'm not sure if that means he can make good boards or not.

Re: O'yeah, we need wind too.
If you mean a splitboard by cross-country snowboard, nobody local has any. You can order it from some of their online stores but nobody has it in stock. 3B snowboards has a kite specific splitboard, Jeremy Jones has a new splitboard coming out next month and Prior and Never Summer make some good one...

Re: Crossing 2009
How about a demo day with wind?! Just kidding, but it would have been more fun to try the new Velocity Kitings LF kites or the Ozone Sport or the RPM that was there to demo if the wind had gotten above 10knots! Hopefully the same people show up this year with new product again and the wind shows as ...

Re: New Kiteboarder... Need Sage Advice!!!
I won't claim to be offering Sage advice, just my experiences. I'm 6'1" and weigh about 165-170. I started with a 12m and a 7.5m and ending up getting a 17m light wind kite that I haven't used a lot just because I don't go out often if the wind is that light. It was a good combo to get me start...

Re: Today or tomorrow?
monkey is seriously hardcore stoked on kiting. I was out there to check out the conditions. I think the wind was 4G6 and he was rocking the 20m Machine. I guess I've lost the motivation to work that hard for a sesh. If I can't ride my foils, I'll wait until I don't have to do all that pumping. I gue...

Re: I'd rather have whitecaps than a white Christmas!
IN MY OPINION, it would suck to have to carry a pump if you are doing backcountry. Again, like I said before, it might not make a big difference when you're parking on a lake and riding around, but you certainly don't want to carry a pump when you're doing backcountry kiting. It all depends on what ...

Re: I'd rather have whitecaps than a white Christmas!
I started with a 12m kite as my first kite (weighed about 170) and it worked well for me for awhile. I would guess that you'd get overpowered beyond your comfort level too quickly on a 14m a lot of times. A 12m might not get you out in the lightest winds but you should be able to use it over a wide ...

No problems with the kite, but the bar is iffy. Some people think it makes a good bludgeoning tool.

Re: Loopy kites wear lines, and other lines of concern
There's PTFE (Teflon spray) that you could spray on them. Not positive it would help, but it should--it would reduce the friction between lines.

On south winds, Flying Cloud airport soccer fields just west of the airport on Pioneer trail.
On west winds, Kingston Park or elementary school in Cottage Grove.

Re: Winter harness...
A climbing harness or even just climbing harness leg loops attached to the spreader bar makes a waist harness considerably more tolerable. It at least eliminates the ride up and my first time jumping with that set-up blew my mind how much more comfortable and even stable I felt. Apparently that is t...

Re: Who needs a kite when you could use a horse?
Looks like a good alternative to a winch for low wind days. Who's bringing the horse to Mille next summer?! I think a winch would be cheaper in the long run though! That winch that Velocity Kiting has is pretty sweet--we need to find a home for it closer to Mille. Can't wait to ride it at some event...
