Calhoun..

Threads like this one make you realize just how lucky we are to have Calhoun. Getting to the lake on a hot, busy summer afternoon and seeing only sails and canoeists is reassuring that occasionally our parks board and local gov't does get it right....

organized...

I think we really need to establish some leadership to help organize us, direct emails and letters, attend meetings, define our message. We won't be effective if we can't create a more formalized organization that can represent our views. Maybe Lakawa can be our voting mechanism to create a more def...

cutting upwind...

Ok, I've got a question for you guys... When I get up on a plane, I tend to start cutting upwind. Is this because of my weight position on the board, the sail or both? Is the position of my harness lines on the boom perhaps set incorrectly?

Thanks!

Madeline Island

I was just up there with my wife and son over Memorial Day weekend. Camped at Big Bay State Park, which has a beautiful long sandy beach, but it's heading almost due east so I'm not sure if it's a usable launch. There seem to be plenty of places to put in, but mostly a rocky coast, we didn't see all...

wind forecast stuck?

Is there something wrong with the wind section? The forecast seems to be stuck on this past Wednesday. Everytime I see that little red line up high in the graph I get excited only to realize it was 2 days ago!

Thanks for the offer Genna, but I have to work late tonight so I won't be able to get out. Hopefully I run into you out there before it gets too cold out.

I think if you had a clear full moon night you could do it. Add some chemical lights to your harness in case you need to signal and you're ready to go! The real problem is that night windsurfing usually means you're alone, you would need to get a few guys together to keep an eye out for one another....

night windsurfing!

This may be a stupid question, but I've got to ask. Last night I was windsurfing Calhoun after work and was out until it was quite dark. But the wind kept on picking up, making it difficult to leave. Obviously I'm not interested in windsurfing until midnite, but what about using chemical lights atta...

thanks

Thanks for the help guys. I was out Saturday in my 4/3 and was fine but I'll definitely have to look into the dry suit. I felt like a real Minnesota windsurfer (I'm originally from NJ), 50 degrees, light rain but nice wind! Take it easy!

when is it too cold?

This is my first year windsurfing and am wondering when does it get too cold to go out? I have a 4/3 full wetsuit and I'm dying to head out today but is a 50 degree air temp too cold now for a 4/3? When I started in the spring I think it was at least 60. Anyway just don't want to end up with hypothe...

Ocean City, MD?

I'm heading out today for a week vacation in the Bethany Beach, DE Ocean City, MD area. I know it's a long shot, but any MN locals here windsurf there before?
Thanks a lot and take it easy!

Thanks for all the help! I've got plenty to go with. I do feel like I tend to position myself very low to the water, just skimming above it when in a plane. I don't know if this is the wrong position to take or perhaps just because I don't have a harness. Either way I guess I feel like a waist harne...

Harness question...

Hey, I'm new to windsurfing and was thinking about getting my first harness setup. I've been out about 10 times now and I've been planing a lot with our recent good winds (albeit with "moderate" control!). Anyway, I know it may all come down to personal preference, but any info/opinions yo...

More newbie questions!

OK, I have my new board and rig and I'm all set to hit the water as soon as possible. There's only one problem: I've never windsurfed before and have no idea when it's "safe" to go out. But my stuff is burning holes in my retinas while it sits collecting dust in my house! When should I exp...

Thanks for all the help guys, I think the 4/3 steamer seems like a good all around choice for now. As I learn more out there on the water I may invest in the drysuit sometime down the road.

Thanks again and hope to see you guys out there soon!
