Thanks to Everybody

Well, I am in the process of selling all of my windsurfing gear as I am getting out of the sport for now. It's bittersweet, but I don't regret it for now as I get to spend lots and lots of time with my beautiful three year old girl Scarlet. As I sold my board tonight to a very nice gentleman who was...

Re: Calling Stillwater Area Windsurfers

Chaddix,

I will have to try the Hudson launches.

I was sailing on a South yesterday at St. Mary's and it was exceptionally good.

Why do you think otherwise?

Calling Stillwater Area Windsurfers

I have been windsurfing for about three or four years now and living in Stillwater for the last two. I finally decided to try windsurfing on the St. Croix. I was not disappointed. The river is honestly a little intimidating. I had my reservations about the launch site, wind direction, current and bo...

Re: If you love dogs....

That's really cool! I am sorry I missed watching that.

I just got my big chocolate lab to start pulling a sled with our 16 month old. It is a blast to watch. The dog, girl and myself have smiles from ear to ear!

Steve and Woody,

Thanks for the response. This is exactly what I am looking for!

By the way, I am just looking to finish!

We'll see you guys up there. Ol' Vojta is even coming up!

Mille Lacs Crossing Advice - Windsurfing

I thought it would be nice to get some opinions from experienced windsurfers regarding the crossing. I still consider myself not a beginner, but not quite a true intermediate windsurfer. This will be my second attempt at the Crossing. Last year I was frankly way out of my league with winds blowing 2...

Mark,

Guess I mean Vojta. I think he's planning to go up, should be his first time in at least four or five years, not sure. Anyway, I'll make sure to get the early registration!

Re: Waconia Wind&Wave this year?

Mark,

I'll be right there with you on the attempt to cross Mille Lacs. I am going to give it my best shot. Hope to see you up there. I am heading up with Voltar, so it should be a good time.

Can you Windsurf on Lake Minnetonka or the St. Croix River

My company has a boat tour set up for this afternoon on Minnetonka. Does anyone windsurf Minnetonka? Clearly, it's a pretty heavily trafficked lake. Can anyone give me a list of pros or cons about windsurfing the lake? Where is a good launch? Should I just drive the extra 20 minutes to Waconia and w...

Re: Recent Windsurfer Fatality in the Gorge

Helmets are a great idea all around. In fact, the previous weekend (when it was gusting 25+) someone's rig got lifted and smacked me right in the head :|

I was glad to have the helmet on because, at a minimum, I would have been knocked on my butt with a major headache.

Re: Good wind for newbies

I am not a kiter, so maybe I don't have much to say about Lake Superior. However, as a windsurfer who is progressing into the intermediate area, I would not even consider windsurfing in Superior at my current level. There is a high risk of hypothermia, even in Summer, with any amount of time spent i...

Re: The Wac

WillDogg, Dean Rizer was nice enough to let me try his JP Freeride 130L a week or so ago. To be honest, it was just slightly too much for my skill level. But not by much. It is a fantastic board, though, and may be exactly what you are looking for. I would give him a call if you are interested in so...

Re: The Wac

Mark, Nice post. Funny, I think both of us are in the same 'boat' when it comes to windsurfing. I find windsurfing to be very manic, unbelievable highs with a number of lows thrown in there for good measure. This is probably due to my current skill level. Just good enough to really get rockin' in th...

Best Launch for White Bear on a West Wind?

Looking to sail WB tomorrow, potentially. I typically sail this lake on a S SE wind. How is it with a W wind? Is Belaire the launch of choice for a W wind?

Lastly, I live in Stillwater. Is Waconia worth the drive on a W wind?

Thanks

Re: Just Say No To Sloppy Rigging!

Mark, Totally agreed with the foot straps. You want those bad boys to be as close to the rails as possible. When you are getting your arse kicked in high winds, you need all of the leverage you can muster. Having your feet closer to the center of the board only opens yourself to getting launched. Th...
