Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. Your stoke defined fueled the fire/winds in Worthington. 30-40mph winds for probably 2+hours. And easily 30mph winds for a vast majority of the day.

Short boards (i.e., boards with no centerboard), no longer have much nose in front because it doesn't do anything. It isn't part of the water line so it just adds weight/pearls in waves/etc. Boards got wider because more surface area in the water = earlier planing (and everybody wants to be planing)...
