Water temp question

Post by Piotr »

Is the water still warm enough for a shortie, or does one need a dry-suit already. I have a feeling that the weather has been really warm lately. Does it translate to warm water in the lakes, or is the sun not high enough anymore to heat the water?

most area lakes would be fine with a shorty if the air temp is 60+. I've been in a 3/2 full and way too warm for the last few sessions

Surface water temp at Mille Lacs yesterday was 62-63 degrees. With the range of temps over the next few days, I don't see us losing more than a degree.

Thanks for all that answered. Following your advice I windsurfed in a shorty on White Bear Lake yesterday, and was warm.

I have to add that yesterday (on Tuesday) I windsurfed on Ramsey on White Bear Lake in just a swimsuit and a rush guard shirt and was not cold at all. There was one more windsurfer sailing with me and he was not wearing a wetsuit either. So, mother nature has been really generous to us lately.
