I'm heading up there right now (8:20am). I'll be practicing flying my Green and Black Waroo, that is, of course, if the wind is strong enough. I'd be happy to help you launch your kite. My fingers are crossed that the wind will stay at the speed and inch a little faster.

Jerry, I've decided to hold off for a couple of hours. The winds have died and bit and they're shifting from SE to W winds. However, it looks like it will pick up in the afternoon. Dare I say the winds will get up to 19mph! like the ikitesurf forecast calls for. Since it will be a West wind I should probably head to another part of Mille Lacs right? I''m looking to be up there by noon.

I rode Reddy yesterday...I was on the way to Malmo, but the side shore winds at Reddy looked great. Good wind once you got out a ways. Rockinbach showed up as I was coming with my 14m to exchange for an 11m. Later I drove through Malmo on my way home and found 6 others out there...the wind was more on shore, but looked smoother than Reddy. Wish I had stopped there before Reddy and joined the crew!

Rockinbach - hope you made it back to shore Ok...as I was packing up, it looked like you were having trouble getting your kite back in the air but you were so far down wind I couldn't really tell if you needed help. On my way down to Malmo, I tried looking for you but couldn't find an opening along the beach until Carlsona, but couldn't see you from there. In hind site, Malmo might have been a better call for you...

Mark, it was nice meeting you. I too had wished I made it to Malmo to meet the MN kiters. My wife is from the area and thought Malmo beach and Reddy were the same. I ended up surviving. I got my lines crossed after a wipe out and had a bear of a time getting them undone. The kite kept pulling me downshore as I tried to untangle the lines. However, it was futile and I finally had to break free from the kite, swim to shore, drop off my board and then catch up to it. A lot of work but I salvaged everything in the end and my lines are back to normal. Thanks for making an effort to help me out. I appreciate it.

Make sure one of us shows you how to recover your kite in the water, and swim. I'll happily show you but when at the beach ask an experienced guy to show you how to do a self rescue in deep water.
