Riding options the next few days

Post by Tighe »

A fairly strong low is moving across Canada over the next few days. Wind flowing in a counter clockwise direction around the low will bring West winds for us as it passes directly north of us today and into tonight and then clock to the NW as the low moves east. Winds look pretty strong both days, near 20mph with gusts to 30.

These winds will bless the Saylorville event with some great winds. Should be a great time.

If you're stayin local...West winds present some really sweet swell on Waconia along the sandbar that extends along the eastern shore. It is onshore conditions so it is definitely experienced kiters and windsurfers only. Less experienced riders looking for side shore conditions might want to check out Bellaire on WBL It looked like it may go slightly SW later this afternoon which is not good at Bellaire, so keep an eye on it. Rutherford is another option on WBL though not the cleanest winds.

Mille Lacs will also have great conditions both days. Less experienced and experienced riders will have great options...and Mille Lacs almost always delivers with these forecasts.

NW winds tomorrow looks potentially a bit stronger. NW is probably THE best direction for Waconia. Some great wide open swell can form between the launch and the Island. Very nice. The winds will be side on, so probably not the best option for newbees.

Wildwood or Mahtomedi on WBL are options for tomorrow as well.

Other options are Byllesby today for windsurfers. West winds can provide the magic carpet ride on this great little lake down near Cannon falls.

NW winds on Pepin can be swwwweeeeet. Ride out of Pepin Wisconsin.

TIP OF THE DAY:
If you have kook proof pigtail connections on your kite, connect them together when you take them off your kite. It will reduce the tangling when you lay them out the next time.

I've got to disagree with Tighe's comment...

With respect to windsurfing, there is nothing to fear. Rather, it may be a good day for windsurfers of all abilities test your limits, try something new, and maybe improve.

"NW winds on Pepin can be swwwweeeeet. Ride out of Pepin Wisconsin." The Point in Lake City is the call for NW.

TV- sorry for being unclear. I meant to say experienced kiters or windsurfers of all abilities will enjoy Waconia on west winds. For future reference I typically will not separate out windsurfers by skill level. There isn't quite the same risk factor windsurfing in challenging conditions.

Pete- Thanks for the clarification. I had thought the Pepin city launch was the call for West and NW. I sit corrected.
