After getting skunked big time today (sorry for the bad tip guys) ARthur and I are thinking of hitting Waconia early like 9 or so. I'm sure we won't be able to beat the west side locals to the punch but that is the place to be for a wester, I think.

water will be around 37, I'm guessing. Let's all go out and celebrate what it means to be " Minnesotan ". Cold, a little snow, and no mountains!

wow, the forecast has been upgraded in a big way. West 20-g30 all day. However, there is a temperature problem -- but it might get up to 38 later in the day. Oh, and there will be no sun.

Thinking of heading Waconia way - the sandy beach launch.

I'm actually thinking about cheaking out Malmo. This is a great direction, but the ice might slide into the bay. It was open yesterday, but now that the wind has shifted, I'm not sure it will stay that way. It wold be good to just see the waves coming in again.

Tyson:
you WILL needs booties and you WILL need mitts. The booties will keep you warm for sure (dry booties 5mm), but make sure that your footstraps are adjustable to handle the extra heft. The problem when you get cold air below about 45º, it is hard to keep the hands really warm. If you are Kiting, it is easier than windsurfing, but you want Dakine's mitts or something similar. See the earlier discussions about hand wear.

For those who haven't done a cold water session before, it's highly recommended that you boil a couple of gallons of water and put in a cooler, and leave that on the beach. You can come in, warm up feet and hands while the kite's still in the air, allowing you to about quadruple your riding time.
