I have the Garmin Forerunner 305 and love it. I use it for skate skiing, running... so I like the wireless heart rate monitor. The GPS came in handy at the crossing. I punched in the 'expected' GPS coordinates for where we were going to be turning around and then left the picture of the map on while kiting across the lake so I knew where to go. It helped even more on the way back as it was hard to see where the finish was from a ways out with the bright sun/snow and 50+ cars and kites out there.

It easy really easy to download to the computer so I could see a graph of heart rate, speed,... vs time or distance for the race or when I work out.

I think you'll be happy with most of the garmin ones.
