Slingshot Fuel vs Slingshot Rev
Seeking advice: Which type of kite could best help me get higher air, longer-hang time, kite loops? I'm coming off Best Waroo's, but I'm looking for C or C style. I'm I looking in right direction?
Should I start with a "used" Fuel to get feel for C kite before popping for new one?
Are the 06, 07, 08 Fuels basically the same? My buddy just got new Revs and loves them ( but he has tons of money!!).
I'd say I'm an intermediate rider who wants to boost higher!
Suggestions welcome.....![/b]

I think that the Fuel and Rev are both really good jumpers, but since you are flying a Waroo, you'll probably be more comfortable going big on a Rev. Obviously, people are also sending it huge on the Fuel, but the technique is different. Being flatter, the Rev allows more control over the angle of attack with a long throw on the bar. So when you pull the bar in right before the launch you get the insta-yank that sends you into orbit. That also means that you need to work the kite a little bit for a soft landing. I suspect that the technique is not very different on a Waroo. For Fuels, you get the yank by sending the kite a bit further. The 07 and 08 Fuels are very similar. Not sure about the 06.

I think if your looking to boost higher, go with the rev. It has more speed, which allows for sky high boosting. If you want to get into the unhooked thing, and big kite loops, go with the fuel. C kites are just more stable and predictable when unhooked. I am flying a 14 meter vegas, and just bought a 15 meter fuel to replace it. I'm still not sure about my middle kite however. I like the C kite for trying unhooked tricks, but that rev sure does jump to the moon when it's powered up. So, I'm hashing between an 11 meter fuel and 11 meter rev. Any suggestions out there?

Eric you're trying to choose between the sweet size in both kites. The 11m Fuel has always been harolded as the THE Fuel to have (even though I preferred the 13m for around here) and the 11m Rev is an amazing kite. It has amazing range because of it's speed. In light winds, just fly it a bit and it comes to life and just keeps powering up more and more. I think the 11m Rev has more range.
Here's some dialog from NWKITE regarding these kites. Remember most of these guys live in the Gorge where it is windy, a lot, so their sizing may be different than ours.

The REV and the Fuel use the same bar now so the depower is the same in terms of the throw of the bar. The REV will fly a bit better at the extremes of the depower though (also giving it a bit more range). Both kites are quite slippery through the air, so most of your depowering comes from edging the kite forward in the window.
I have a few Used Revs for sale and Midwest has a full inventory of Revs in stock..some sweet color combos.
Can't go wrong with either kite.

I spent a lot of time last fall and winter going back and forth between an 11 Rev and a 13 Fuel to see if I could make the switch to a hybrid this year. What I found is both kites have advantages depending on what type of rider you are. Progression can’t be achieved if you’re not comfortable with your gear. So when I give the differences between each kite try and think about when you feel good and when you’re out of your comfort zone. I will have to say if you’re someone that starts to laugh or get a huge smile by slamming the water at full torque then I have no doubt a C is your style. Notice I used the word torque and not speed in my last sentence. That is the key difference between the two kites.
Let’s start by thinking of how the two kites fly. This is essential in understanding why the each kite has such a different feel. This is also why people have such an opinion on kites.
The turning portion of a C kite is on the sides of the kite. When you pull on the bar the kite cups the air or slows down the kite on that particular side. This allows the power section of the kite to maintain its’ shape. With this design the kite will maintain full power through a turn. This makes a powerful arcing turn. The pros and cons are very suggestive depending on what you like. Also the sheet-ability of a C compared to a hybrid. I like to think about sheeting a kite as speeding up or slowing the kite and less about more power less power. A C kite has less input in this department then hybrid, but are 3 times better then C kites made in 05. The end effect of this is that you need to be a better pilot to get the same height out of a hybrid as a C kite if we neglect the fear factor of pulling the trigger on a C.
The hybrid on the other hand has a pivot to its turn. Watch a hybrid when someone cranks on the bar the kite will twist. This makes for a very fast kite. With the addition of changing the angle of attack the kite is a very fast flyer. This was the intention all along when Tony was working on this kite. He wanted to make a hybrid with the speed of an octane. The speed and sheet-ability makes this kite less painful when you get slammed in the water. This is why depending on your style this kite might give you more confidence hence pushing your limits faster.
Hope this helps.

Too all:
Much apprecaited thanks!! Very thoughtful! Just the feedback I was hoping to get what I was looking for! It's nice to hear everyone's perspective.
To Avery:
Dude, I weigh over 185lbs the only thing I can ride that is 130ish is
my wife--and even that is not with any frequency---and let's leave the
stiffness issue out of it!
Thanks Again--- adam

We need to do a demo daze with just the Rev and the Fuel - equivalently sized.
I propose that it's a deal where you show up and ride each one for 20 minutes or so (so others can try), take turns, and then BS about the differences.
I have a 9 Rev (probably similar to an 11 or 13 Fuel) and a 17 Fuel to throw on the pile... Hunter? Tighe? Chris B?
Pony up, boyz!!!

Eric, get the 11 Fuel. I had a session on one in Padre that was the most fun I have ever had on a kite period. I almost bought one but I already have a 9 and a 13 so it was hard to justify having every size fuel but very tempting
I know Nate and Hunter both have one and love it.

get a Fuel
LOL sry boys there is no comparison ,,,,,Metallica said it best "GIVE ME FUEL GIVE ME FIRE GIVE ME THAT WHICH I DESIRE "
Death Roll thats some funny sh!t , about the only thing you ride thats a 130
and as far as the 06 07 08 fuel they definatly vary each year, Im not going to get all techy on ya , guess you have to take my word for it or grab one of us and try one but definatly get a fuel hands down. I know of a few good deals on some fuels just let me know.

Great description Chris. You nailed the differences perfect.
The fuels are my first choice on a decent day. I think that 9 REV is almost too fast! It maybe though that I not as good as a pilot as I think. I feel the safest and in the most control with the fuels. Once a fuel rider always a fuel rider.
Is it true that the 08 fuels relaunch a bit easier?
I will throw my kites in to the comparison if needed. 15,13,11 fuel 9 rev

FYI
When reading through the above discussion, definitely give my opinion the least weight. While I flew Fuels exclusively for 3 or 4 years, I haven't spent any considerable time on them in quite awhile. Chris, Nathan, Hunter, Denis, and Jeremy have far more experience on these than I.
Just wanted to make that clear.

To Nathen B
What sort of Fuels and prices can you get? Used is fine too....
Adam
adamkrey@yahoo.com or 612-746-5303
PS 130ish maybe be too generous of what I'm really riding....
