what a Bi@$h.. that was one of the deer that hang arround fatherhenipin
a farmer in the area took one down last year.
it's too bad we probibily won't see them arround the park anymore now
it was a kinda cool sight when you are driving to through FH and see a White deer a half mile away they stick out like a sore thumb at this time of the year

I saw the picture the DRKNAP took of the deer in the gallery and thought it was really neat. It was very ghostly.
I am a hunter (although I haven't hunted deer in years), but was appalled that this idiot made it a point to seek out and shoot this specific animal.
It's very disappointing. If I was deer hunting with my kid 20 years from now, it would have been nice to say, "walking through the woods I saw an albino deer, it was like a ghost". Now the stories will end with, some jerk shot it.
This hunter is a complete moron and makes hunters look bad.

I can't beleive this idiot Mary Rakotz was happy she did this, unreal what morons walk the land now days. Everyone was actually happy for her, not one person in that interview said anything like do you think you should have shot it? I have a dislike for hunting personally and when you see this type of thing happen it even makes me hate it more, it's just too bad!

Hunters
I no longer hunt, but the fact remains that there are too many deer for our land to support. Without predators, hunters are our only means to thin the herd. Actually, in an evolutionary sense, albinos are mutants
which have a genetic disadvantage and, in effect, weaken the gene pool.
That said, I think what she did was deplorable. I still tear up when Bambi's Mom buys it.

We killed off the deer's natural preditors and raped the land to claim it for our own. Now we have a sport where we can slaughter another living creature as big as we are with one of our wonderful inventions for the glory of being man (thumping of chest heard with mega bass)...or wo man.
There are other ways to manage a heard but then what would we do with all the guns, between the times that we accidentally shoot eachother or let our kids take them to school. Oh yeah, I forgot, of course we can send them with our sons and daughters to go into someone else's land and kill them....nah, bombs are so much more efficient and a better use of our money otherwise we'd waste it on schools or something crazy like that.
I am shocked that someone would shoot the albino, but I am more shocked that we continue to spend money, effort, human lives, to research, manufacture and distribute mechanisms whose soul (interesting word usage) purpose is to kill other living things. Hell, maybe we're just managing our own herd.
sorry for the rant, just kinda struck a nerve
without mutations, there is no evolution of a species.....at least that what I tell myself as I go to sleep each night. : )

It's a cruel and savage world for both humans and animals. I think most of the people who kiteboard and windsurf are lucky enough not to face the extremely harsh realities that exist outside of beautiful Minnesota.
Think of Iraq, Iran, South Korea, parts of Africa, South America and Asia and there you will find why a human will go to any length to survive, including using guns towards other people. Sad but real. Unfortunately here in the U.S. criminals give your average gunowner a bad name. We will always have criminals killing other people with guns, knives, whatever they can get their hands on.
Let's make sure we understand why people hunt as well. Not too long ago, it was necessary to kill an animal to put food on the table. Now, of course you can buy it at a grocery store 24/7. Those who hunt now are harking back to old traditions of "bringing home the bacon". I don't consider it a sport. I think it's what we have been doing since the dawn of time. It may be different from going to Cub Foods and you may not agree with it. But unless you are a vegetarian you don't have much of a leg to stand on.
Lastly, referring to human cruelty...believe me we are not the only "evil species". Many animals kill and eat their own young to keep ensure the pack is healthy and the strongest survive.
I just wanted to make sure that hunters aren't getting crushed here. I hate that that idiot shot that specific deer, but hunting is a personal choice for everyone.

Sorry one more crack on the hunters, use a knife spear or whatever else you can get your hands on and try and track whatever your hunting and try it that way, it's the way it was really done before the viral white man came to this land. I don't consider baiting a bear or sitting in a tree stand waiting for something to walk by and shooting it hunting, pathetic!
World is kind of funny, people with opinions, guns are good guns are bad, guns and weaponry have controlled the power struggles around the world from the time you could throw something at someone. People doing demonic things to each other I have seen first hand in the first Gulf War Conflict in Kuwait as a civilian contractor, people burned alive, body parts left in the streets, people hanging from windows decapitated, children dead in the streets. It's hard to understand how another human could do this to another human and then you have the mighty deer hunting lady who just had to kill the only known white deer that was a regular gift to even see in the woods, the world is just wonderful, thanks lady, you freak!

100% with you Tighe.
My background is process automation, over the years I've been involved with projects on firearms...yeah I'm a whore. What always astounded me was the volumes. Federal Cartridge in Anoka produce 3 million .22 shells a day, they have a 30% market share. Smith and Wesson produce 1500 hand guns a day. Fabrique National who bought U.S.repeating arms ( winchester) produced ridiculous volumes of army weapons, unfortunately I'm not allowed to say the #'s, confidentiality agreements and all that.
I'm quite convinced the general public have more firearms than most foreign governments. mind boggling.
I had to learn to hunt squirrels, we have over the years had explosions of population to the extent that we've had them get into the house. Imagine a scene from Tom and Jerry with a dog and two cats chasing the squirrel around the house. Pure pandimonium. The dog thought it was the best toy she ever had.
But when I send one of them off to the big tree in the sky I feel guilt and shame for days, and I hate bloody squirrels. I don't understand killing for fun. For food, yes and I accept the hunters arguements but I'll never understand it.

Sorry if you all mis-interpreted my post as defending what she did. I guess I was just trying to lend some logical perspective to a very emotional issue. Any time the news involves cruelty to fellow creatures, and the added conundrum of firearms, it really sparks a reaction, as is demonstrated by this thread. I grew up in Montana in the midst of the hunting/gun culture and was around it all my life. That background provided some understanding of their mind-set, but I certainly no longer count myself among their numbers. I just wish we could arrive at a more humane solution to things like wildlife overpopulation, not to mention all the horses, dogs, cats and other pets seen on the news on a regular basis that have been subjected to man's inhumanity. Yeah, I agree, and am thankful we share this great obsession and escape mechanism of wind-worship. It is true:

Not to play devils advocate but most of you writing eat meat, and enjoy it immensely. I have been to a slaughter house before and watched the cattle line up one by one. (I will spare the gory details) What I’m trying to say is that if you do eat meat I can’t think of a better place to get it then from mother nature. We all see this push towards responsible farming practices. I personally cant see a more natural and sustainable way then wild game; besides vegetarianism. I just wanted to make a point that I admire hunters that hunt for food. To much focus is on how large the rack is instead of how long will this animal feed my family. Most of you are discussed with the lack of respect that the animal deserved.
The question I ask is that maybe the focus should not be on weather she was hunting but rather the motives for shooting the deer.
Shit its windy

Re: Albino Buck taken down
At least three albino deer remain at Father Hennepin SP. I spotted three while hiking the trails, then spotted two near the main road as I was leaving.
Although Albino deer are rare, they are relatively common in the Mille Lacs area.
