I am working today. Terrible thing, work. And the ambulances are keeping me busy, though not so busy that I am not checking the winds every 5 minutes. Ok, three minutes.
Love you, man. You are the only one who has hiked OVER the ice in the snow carrying your board to get to open water to surf. A neoprene-clad Yeti/Loch ness combination
It was pretty extreme up there yesterday. Kurt and Terry were on the water when I arrived in the afternoon. I pumped up my 7m and was nicely powered. Kurt was raving about it was the greatest session of his life-- he says that almost every time he goes out. Terry and I had fun but we agreed that ideal Duluth conditions around 25mph closer to the beginning of a big push when the waves are cleaner. Yesterday was washboard city out there, so it was very tough to get clean rides on the wave faces. Riptides were as stong as I have ever seen them. A wild afternoon on the water to be sure. Several times I jumped off a wave face, floated along over the wave, and then landed in the whitewater from the same wave for a pouding on spin cycle. Crazy.
To be clear, I said it was as biggest (waves) as I've ever been on in about 12 sessions that I had on superior over the past 2 years. How many times does one get to ride a 7m kite and in 10+ foot waves in MN?
Anytime I get to ride, I'm totally stoked, particularly in insane conditions like yesterday at superior and some of the other intense days like at father Hennipen a few times over the past couple of weeks. So on the beach I may come off like I just had the session of my life-I acutally think that was probably a few weeks ago at FH. Mike and Terry are totally kite pessimists! Kiting is dang fun no matter how you get it.
