The Cannon fires again
Owatonna is S30G40 at 10 a.m., a good read on lakeside at Cannon. Yesterday afternoon was the same. Brian and I were wound up on 4.2s and 70-liter wave boards. Two days in a row: da Gorge in MN!

Hey Dave, since I parted with my 3.0 a few years ago I had to make do with a 3.7--which was naturally a bit much. I've never seen Cannon so big on a such a warm and sunny day. You know it's windy when you're hanging on for dear life in the lulls. Sid scored an early 4.0 session and then got blown off the water when the Real Wind arrived. Tim and Mike and I sailed later, with Tim way powered on his 2.9. I launched a few but lacked the courage to really send it in the 50+ gusts.
Local fact about Cannon: the Faribault airport readings are never an accurate read on south winds at lakeside. The lake sits in a shallow river valley which creates a considerable venturi for southerlies. Readings at the Owatonna airport are frequently dead-on for current conditions at Cannon. Also, with a strong low approaching from the Dakotas, if you want to see what Cannon will be like at 3:00 p.m. look at the Fairmont readings at 1:00 p.m. The gradient generally moves north and east with peak winds at Cannon pegged to the peak heating of the day.

big water
I drove down to Canon Lake yesterday, first time ever for me. Was hoping to ride, unfortunately it was too big for the gear I had. Smallest sail I had a 4.7 with a 115 liter board. Having seen 40+ mph gusts, I had to defer.
Watched a couple of guys riding. They were looking good. After the Gorge trip this July, hoping to get some gear and experience to ride in such conditions.
Came back to Ramsey beach, rigged the smallest gear. However it was extremely gusty. No wonder they say WBL is not very good on south-west. After struggling for half hour between slamming into the water, trying to hold on to the sail, strap-in, strap-out, I called it the day. What a day it was though! Next time, I guess...

The best thing about a man is his dog
Bill - thanks for the report. I knew I was missing it big time. Nothing beats the kind of day you guys had....'cept maybe a straight W @Byllesby
Baskin - there's nothing worse than not having the equipment for those epic days. In fact, I don't think I'll ever give up my 2.9, 3.5 & 4.0 sails.
If yer gonna stay with Pryde you should check out these deals on smaller stuff:
