As the wind turns...

Post by Coach »

The wind just went WSW, and is going to go further west. Blowing about 15-20 right now at the Bear.

Heading to Bellaire - come one, come all!

p.s. Try the new T2, 11m, if the wind is right...

Hey Hightower - nice to meet ya. Good winds @Bellaire. Coach was on his TD - looked like gusts to 30+. Opted to windsurf - really good 4.5 session!

Hey, nice to meet you too. The windsurfers were really tearing it up out there. Verycool. As for me? I tried to follow Coach's advice and head in as I worked my way down-wind towards the buoys but as I searched and searched for my board I found myself beyond the buoys and without my board. Bummer. Making the decision to give up looking for my (brand new) board was difficult, but making it to the tree-lined shore with the now off-shore wind proved to be even more difficult. The highlight of my day/week/month/year was Joe Levins and his family picking me up in their pontoon, collecting me, my kite and after some searching my board and bringing me back to the launch (get this) complete with beach blanket sized towels and ice-cold Heinekin beer. I wouldn't recommend bringing on a kite-mare but this one had the best ending EVER. Thanks Joe - I owe you one (or two or three).

Hightower - Glad you got picked up, especially by a beer-toting Joe!

I drove down the shore and waited (and waited) while you drifted along the shoreline. It's a long way along that stretch... You looked OK while I drive a couple miles home - came back to look for you but you were gone! Obviously wrapped in a warm blanket and swilling beer by that point. :-)

Nice meeting you - see you next time out.

Hightower -

Glad you were at least rescued..did you get your board, too?

It reminds me of one of my Ist times windsurfing on small gear, my first time at WBL, winds from the west, everyone out, winds in the upper 20s, blowing sideshore. I go out fast (no problem!), get out in the middle of the bellaire straight, and fall of course. COuldn't get up (didn't know how to waterstart), somehow got my mast detatched form my board (probably from stupidity.) Didn't have a lifw vest. Was never so exhausted trying to get it put together in these huge waves, and finally rescued by motorboat. Refief definitely overcame any pride issues.

That experience definitely comes to mind when I am tempted to get out kiteboarding for my first time in water...NOT gonna do that unless I know I am gonna get blown somewhere manageble, because I assume that things won't go so well the first times out. Lately the wind has been so good that windsurfing has been the ticket anyway.

Sounds like an unexpected wind gift yesterday! I wanted to get out but was family-bound. One of those times when you knd of hope it is only a 1/2 hour wind, and it goes on and on!

Bellaire was definitely a blast yesterday! I even found myself floating in the air a few times on purpose this time. It felt like I was up six feet but it was probably three. Hightower it was nice to meet you and I'm glad everything worked out. Coach we didn’t officially meet but I was flying the purple Best, you where really laying out some huge boosts!
Earlier In the day I was planning on using my TD16, and I couldn't remember what are the best knots to attach my lines to, can somebody give me some advice.
