5.7 sail lower batten issue

Post by Dima »

I put together my 5.7 Aerotech Phantom to the best of my ability and it looked okay but - very lower batten the one closest to mast extension is arched...more so than the upper ones. Every time I hop on the other side of the board and flip the sail I have to use my knee to kick the lower batten in so it arches the other way. is this supposed to be happening?

The bottom batten should have more shape to it as you want the power in the sail to remain low so it can be controlled. It may pop around the mast more easily when the sail is under load i.e. from the wind, but you still may have to give the sail a pump to get the batten to rotate. If it is sticking too much try more downhaul. You may not have enough to let the batten rotate freely.

If none of that works aerotech has a new forum on their website and you could probably get a better answer from there. Steve Gotlieb (the sail's designer) answers the posts himself.
