Broken Chicken Bone

Post by chanrider »

A minor thing, but I noticed my chicken bone on my TD bar was cracked for a while but pretty much ignored it until it broke all the way. Once the tubing did finally snap off completely the chicken loop was free to flop off the hook and did so immediately. I'm glad this happened right when I was coming in.

I use a regular open hook, obviously a closeable hook would avoid this issue altogether.

The tubing is available at any hardware store for dirt cheap, so don't put off replacing cracked bones. Tubing is 11mm x 8mm or 7/16" x 5/16." At the very least I shoulda put some tape on the sucker before using it with a crack!

Were you able to get the tubing into the ball on the end? If not let me know, it is a replacable item, and I can get one from SS. The extreme cold we've been having is doing a number on all plastic and rubber parts on our kites.

Haven't actually put the new tubing on yet, but this is one repair that looks like a piece of cake. Taking it apart, there is just a single screw and I'm confident it will slide in no problem, but thanks for the heads up! :)

Funny thing, mine just snapped off yesterday. I went over to Scuba Center and got a really cool one that mounts to your spreader bar instead of the chicken loop. Ozone makes it and it's $12. If you don't want to try to extend yours, i'd highly recommend it.

Donkey Anatomy

Post by JRN »

You guys have to show me what a "chicken bone " is...Is it the same part often referred as a Donkey_____?(AKA the male anatomical unit) As in,
"Put your D.D. through the chicken loop to keep it in the spreader hook."
Or, " Man, check out the chicken bone on that Burro!" I need help! JN

I bought the one from Ozone at Larry's and it works splendidly. Their design took into consideration the cold weather by encasing the plastic tube in stitched fabric. I predict it will never break. If any complaint it's too stiff and difficult to bend. But, for $12 it got me riding pronto and I don't think about it until its time to take it out.
