Snowboard Destruction.

Post by steveb »

It appears we will be a little while till the lakes offer good snow conditions.
By way of something to do for amusement I thought I'd offer the chance for an advanced snowboard clinic get together.
A couple of years ago with the changes in design of snowboards the riding methodology was revised and refined by the AASI ( american association of snowboard instructors) My job at Trollhaugen with one other guy ( non kiter) was to train and improve the riding skills of the instructors so they would understand how to really use there boards to their full potential.
We would refine body position, torsional and carving techniques which made them better riders.Depending on the time and people who decide they want to come we may have time to get into tricks and jumping but my main goal would be to refine your general riding and carving skills.
When on the hill 95% of the riders I see don't know how to really ride their boards.
So if you fancy really learning how to ride your snowboard and would be interested in a get together, reply to the post and we'll see what we can get set up in the next week or two.
No charge, just for fun.But you buy your own lift ticket.

the carve

Post by RobH »

I agree with Steve, you can tell someone who truley knows the art of carving and riding edge to edge by the tracks they leave in the snow, most boarders on the hill do the side slipping to check and control the speed, its a different feel and a rush to be locked in on edge to edge. I would be glad to help out as well, missing the old days of teaching.

Heads up that cheap lift tickets can be had at Welch this Saturday if you mention the City pages Altitude adjustment party its 10 bucks off lift or half price ticket with a Taco Bell card (free from any Bell - eat at your own risk) when you mention the City pages party.

Mr. Steve,

Count me in! I may even give you a call this week.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,totally worn out and loudly proclaiming. WOW! What a ride!!

warm windy and sun

Post by RobH »

Temps are remaining warm, Saturday is calling for wind sun and temps in the 40's. Seems wrong to be on the hill with good winds but will the ice be safe ? Then again Lake Pulaski still has open water if anyone is tempted to break out the dry gear.

Currently Im planning on Welch, The East Challet has a nice tailgating area, outside tables, firepit and typically a grill is available. Not to mention there is a full service bar and food inside the challet - might be a great place to meet mid afternoon - people tend to set up camp behind the bar by the fire pit to enjoy the day when taking breaks from the hill.

I'm guessing but I think the ice maybe iffy by the weekend, obviously I'd prefer to kite but apart from going to the UP we may be SOL , thats why I thought a get together at a resort maybe kind of fun.

steve
I'm interested and should be able to make it this weekend. Doesn't matter where (although I have a pass at afton). Course if it blows and there is rideable terrain nearby would want to kite.

I would love to have you teach me a thing or two Steve. I'm sure my stance is all wrong and I'm a very crude carver. Unfortunately this weekend will be crazy for me with Xmas just around the corner. Hopefully we'll be able to do it another time.

I would be interested in joining you also. Being relatively new to the area I have no preference on where to go, as the only local hill I have been at is Afton. Just let me know where and when- and how to find you once I am there.

I should be able to make if after 2pm if your thinking Sat. Where is the best riding conditions? Welch is fine but haven't been there this year. I thought Afton was better than trollhagen as of a week ago (rode both within the past 2 weeks). But I suspect much has changed with the warm weather these past few days. Kurt

For me Welch is a haul so if I go there I'd spend the whole day, we could have 2 meeting times one am the other in the afternoon.
Someone who knows the mountain should suggest where we can gather to make sure we can find one another.

Tyson...your and my board did not ship with the others, I don't know what we did to piss em off. They should be here Friday.
If you want to go Welch down I could pick you up in Hudson?.

Cedar is beginning to have the same lookas when the ice comes off in Spring..... :(

Welch opens at 9:00 on Saturdays. A good spot to meet would be at the back chalet. To get there you enter the ski area and head towards the main chalet then turn left and follow the road to the back chalet. You can purchase lift tickets there too.
