Turtle Lake in Shoreview has a thick layer of ice, with lots of chunky stuff w/snow along the SE shoreline. It is a nice east side spot for a NW wind. If there is wind this evening and decent moonlight, Kurt and I will probably head there. I will post here if we do.
Watching for the "BIG ORB!" Is Turtle near Kev's house? Saw Ice boats off Ramsey this afternoon! They were hugging the shore, but were out there. Hope the blades are sharp. JN
Sky is clearin and a full moon is rising in the east, now we just need the wind to cooperate. Not enought at the moment. Jim, are you going to join us? Anyone else?

Mike W and I figured it was a bust, but I started to see things move and being desperate I had to check it out. Arrived at turtle lake around 9pm and pleased to find a steady 10 to 15 winds. Started to rig my 12 waroo and it took a long time in the dark and on the ice but eventually got it ready. Had to self launch using my ice anchor which took some work as my lines kept getting caught up on the ice chunks which around the shore was like lizard skin. Finally got it up and by this time think the wind had picked up another 5 to 8mph. Got several runs in on black ice using the switch blade but wind picking up to 20 to 25 and I was feeling quite nervous. Took some time to get back to the ice anchor downwind. I fully depowered the kite but it didn't want stay out of the air and was dragging me past my anchor. Fortunately Maximiliano was watching on the shore and was available to catch my kite. Had he not been there, I might have had another kite in the tree incident. Thanks Maxamiliano big time! The moon did come out from behind the clouds for a while and it was pretty cool. Overall a great experience but I think I'll wait for some snow and daylight for my next session.
