spirit lake
got an evening session tonight on big spirit(fuel 17 and sx141)... that damn kite flys in almost no wind 10mph... water is already pretty decent for temp mid 40's was the last i heard, and with this week temps could be close to 50 by the weekend!!! that means road trip for all of you city folk, hope to see you guys down here soon!!!
right on
I hope to get a session or two down there soon. I love that lake.
I know what you mean about the 17m. The range is amazing. Turns as fast or faster than last years 12m.
If you see a great day setting up down there, post something here. Our conditions can be very different here in the twin cities.

Coach,
As far as Murph goes, rumors are that he's at his old winter gig at Tahoe tuning skis. That has not been confirmed and no one is sure if and when he will be back. We are starting a pool at Captain's for the date he shows up.
Murph did sell the shop, but we're breakin' in the new guy (Brian). Jesse has already taken him to Padre.
I was going to get a Fuel 19 for number 1, but Jesse and Tighe's comments have almost convinced me to get the 17. Anybody flown both yet? I'm 200 lbs and my #2 kite will depend on #1.

I was in the same boat. Joe, who's in Norway now, went 19,13,9, and said he had no problem going between the 19 and the 13. He's about 200 or more I'd say as well.
Remember the 17 is actually a 18.5 or something like that. Making the 19 like a 21. It is a big kite. The winds always seem gusty when really light as well so having a big kite might make more sense where the winds are steadier. Keeping a big kite in the air can be tough when the wind goes from 10 to 2mph. Whereas you can sine the heck out of a smaller one and keep in flying.
The 17 is a great kite. It seems big on the ground though it flys just like my 12 of last year. I'd rather have a bit faster kite I have to move a bit to generate power when the wind backs of, over one that is a bit slower and has less range. Then again I weigh 25 lbs less than you.
hope some of this brain dump helps you in your decision.
you going GTO or Fuel for your smallest?
