Devil's Lake, North Dakota: Event Recap

Post by Eric B »

North Dakota snowkiters congregated for the first time last weekend to enjoy the state’s steady winds, each other’s company, and the ample satisfaction that came every time a driver parked to ogle and stare. Besides slowing traffic along Devil’s Lake, experienced kiters were able to teach flying principles to interested attendees. Sunshine and a pregnant breeze made the event enjoyable for everyone.

Having already claimed Minnesota, Montana, and Canada, snowkite fever is encircling North Dakota, infecting it on three fronts. The energy can be felt at the University of North Dakota. Nearly a dozen UND students attended the event. To one Devil’s Lake resident, however, kite power is nothing new. “Nels” has been kiteskiing for over fifteen years. He would admit that big boosts and raised enthusiasm are new developments in the area. Thanks to the city of Devil’s Lake, which set up the kite festival, North Dakota snowkiters of all experience levels were able to explore their passion together.

Representatives from snowkiting.com, Ozone Kites, and Instructor Derek Warner were present.
