Checked the launch at Bellaire this A.M. Some brave, or perhaps crazy ice fishers have already got a couple of shanties above the shallows. I'll try to measure the ice thickness this weekend. Lost my ice anchors from last year, but am anxious to get out there and play.
Jim N. P.S: also looked at Ramsey; looked like a snow-mo had braved the trip...didn't see a large hole where the tracks ended, so...

That bay down by Wildwood Beach usually freezes up first, so I am betting there is thicker ice down there. It is pretty good on NW too. I am hoping to get out on Saturday in the early afternoon.
I am waiting to hear the report about Waconia too.
Terry, give me a shout if you want to coordinate times. I will be gone most of the morning.

walked out about 100 feet at mahtomedi beach ice is about 3 inches. there is only a light dusting of snow. nothing sticking. Spoke to the guys at white bear boat works yesterday they said they drilled a few holes on the marina bay and found the ice was only 1.5" in places. There are ice fisherman out but seem to be sticking close to shore and on the shallow areas.
I was at WBL/Ramsey around noon. Drilled many holes and measured debths on the bit. Anywhere from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2" at about 150 yards out from shore.
Later went to Steve B's Cedar Lake on the North side public access. Same measurements. Anywhere from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 but with a couple inches of snow. I stayed close to shore and within my measurement parameters not knowing the lake. Kiting was GREAT!
Steve - seeing as I now live outside Hudson, I hope you don't mind an extra kiter on your lake!
