Pics from Pepin

Post by Pete »

Wed. I sailed briefly before my mast snapped at the boom. I was a ways out but the river really isn't that cold yet. 1 hour paddle back to shore. The last picture shows what I did salvage. Chris Brown choose to stay on the MN side and found a nice spot.

Great shots Pete. You captured the wind on the water and the swell well. The camera always seems to reduce the size of the swell so it must have really been massive. Nice shot of Mr. Brown as well.

Truly the Gorge of the Midwest.

Great pictures Pete. Get your camera, film and "new mast" ready for tomorrow. Looks like it could be a repeat performance.

There's gotta be a story here.

Seems to me there's a story in this. I can't imagine paddling in those winds was easy. Pete, any insights for the rest of us who may face equipment breakdown in the extreme? Great photos, as always.

Really not much of a story except trust in the Lord.

Insight, let's see...I wish I would have at least tried to grab the webbing on the top of the sail, I may have been able to wing it in that way...but I didn't. Think not about the dollar factor, let what you must go. I saved my boom by wedging the top of the mast through the straps and that was solid. The harness did need to come off and the velcro made attaching it to the boom simple, it also acted as a bad pillow to hold my head up. The water really was not that cold on the river yet so that was the big bonus.

Anyway, the plan is to go to Byllesby on Sunday because the shelter that the trees provide. Additionally, short swim in in case of equipment failure.

Hope we get a huge turnout!

So, Byllesby then head over to the point? This will be my first dawn patrol in a long time.

Thanks for the call, Pete. I won't be @Bylles till around 10:30 hopefully it will still be W. If not, I've made the Bylles to Point drive before. Bringing the digital camera. Either way I'm stoked!
