My girlfriend and I are heading to Maui next week for a few days on the water. We’re looking for some insight on places to stay. Many of the places (cottages and the like) on the North Shore seem to require a 7 day stay. We’d love to spend a few days next to the shore and the rest hopping around. Having never been there we’re a bit lost aside from the marketing of these places on the web.
Any thoughts?
Thanks – Jim & Tamara

Maui bound - need advice

I was there...exactly one year ago in fact! Here are a couple of suggestions:
Maui is not that big, so most places between Kahana and the north beaches where you windsurf and kite are drivable in an hour or so.
Wailuku, nearest to Kite Beach and the windsurfing beaches are, in my humble opinion, not the best places to stay for that *resort* feel. I could be wrong here...somebody please correct me if that is the case.
Lahaina and anywhere North is very resort like, with great beaches for relaxing and some great snorkeling spots. This is where I would stay if you have to stay 7 days and only want to spend a day or two kiting/windsurfing.
The Road to Hana - takes about 6 hours or so to drive, but it is awesome. Never did make it to Hana, as I ran out of time...might be a great place to stay, especially if you want to get away from all the tourists.
Have a great time!

We have been going every June for quite awhile. The best place to stay is in Kihei about 1/2 hour a way from the windsurf beach. There are a lot of options. A good place that is pretty reasonable is Kamole Sands, look up the web site and book online. Food choices are better on this side too. For gear hook up with Neil Pryde Maui, the gear is great and the guys are nice, they have NP sails, starboard and JP and Cabrihna Kites. There are also good places to surf nearby.
