Fleet 8 is requesting that you preregister, even if only by email so that they can get an idea of numbers, and can ensure provisions for all. This is no willy nilly event, Mike Fox has run the windsurfing equivalent of this event for the last quarter of a century, and has all of his ducks in a row.

I'm psyched to be a part of the first ever endurance kiting event.

This event is not for the faint hearted, though there will be sag wagons (snowmobiles) if you can't complete the event.

Sign up, show up, and ride.

I would contact Mike Fox with any questions you have.
fleet-8@juno.com

I think he will choose the Start and finish based upon the wind direction and obstacles on the lake.

An update from Mike Fox:

1.  Naturally, there has been a lot of questions regarding the start/finish sites for the Kite Xing.  For the windsurfer Crossing. nearly a dozen start/finish sites are used to accommodate the beam reach requirement.  For snowkites, we recognize the increased range of 2-3 times the doable area of the compass.  But the winter surface of Mille Lacs is considerably more inconsistent than the summer and dictates stronger than the wind direction.  At the very least, we hope to start & finish in Garrison giving a total distance of 18-26 miles for the pros and 12-17 miles for the amateurs.  If the winds and ice conditions allow us to do more, we certainly will.

2.  For those who were planning to join our support team with a snowmobile, we do need to be notified if you are committed to be there.  Before the last snowfall, the surface of the ice was prompting the use of 4-wheelers over snowmobiles.  We will definitely be using some combination of both.  Late Thursday afternoon, we will announce the conditions and our needs.  We thank you for your support and flexibility.
