If it looks like 15+ mph wind I'll most likely be there 1-5p.

hope to see you there.

wacki parking lot closed

Hey All,

I just returned from and epic time snowkiting in NZ. Still wading through pictures and jet lagging...Ill post more to ussnowkite.com in a few days.

More importantly:
I went out to Waconia for kiting today (Thursday), and the regular parking lot is posted as closed for about a month...There is a huge dirt mover and many dump trucks there. They already removed all the concrete curbs and the place looks like a war zone. The fisherman trailer parking side had a huge pile of concrete and dirt in it, unparkable.

Our wind sport side of the lot was OK, but there were a few of the workers cars parked there, and they were eyeing me pretty close for the 5 minutes I was there checking it out. SO- We might be out of a parking lot, and that access point for the next few weeks.

thanks Alex.

good to know. Anyone know what they are doing?

What about the South Launch for today's wind?

Other options?

Hey AP!

I can hardly wait to hear more about your trip to NZ, what an awesome place! Anyone know why they are ripping up the taxpayer’s wonderful lot at Wacky in the middle of the windy season!!! This is an outrage :!: I demand this be lead topic in the next presidential debate. :x

Cornboy & I launched out of the new beach at the Southeast corner of the lake last week. They did do a great job on this project. No more road or fence to cross. Lots of wide open space with plenty of green grass & sand. One little, well, HUGE, problem. Tons 'O' Milfoil  At first I was wondering how I could possibly get so much milfoil on my fin so quickly. Then I saw the many thousands of surface floating streamers of an incredibly vigorous milfoil patch all over that corner of the lake. Big bummer. :(

On the right wind this could be a good spot for kiters but be exceeding careful if you sail from here. This is the city of Waconia's new gem with lots of beach goers and pedestrians usually around plus cops driving by all the time checking it out. One tiny little kiting incident of almost any kind and I'm sure we could easily be permanently banned. Definitely not a newbie spot, sorry. Just remember, safety first!

Matt B. told me that they are expnanding the lot for more parking spots. He was not sure how much beach access would be left when all is said and done.

I was out there Tuesday earlier in the day, and I think that lot might be closed to us, not sure. Today will be the test. I'm not sure the construction crew is going to be real thrilled with us parking in there, if they are trying to work. Maybe the Northwest end of the lot will be useable.

Doesn't the South beach drop off real fast? So solo drift launching would be difficult. Today would be straight on-shore, which would be make an assisted launch work well.
