Malmo vs Reddy Creek

Post by jeff »

Being that I've never kited that far north... I can't seem to find any decent info as far as location/access to these two launches and differences between them.

Any help please? Looking at the wind, tomorrow might be a good time for a session up north. Also, what's mille lacs water temp?

sorry I've been a bit slow updating the Lakes Page with info on these sites.

Malmo is on the NE side of Mille lacs and has a large grassy rigging area, shallows almost a mile out and is very user friendly. Works for most winds S to NW. Even onshore W can work safely because you can walk out so far.

Reddy Creek is a couple miles down the road along the north side. Drive past Calsona beach resort and you'll see a small parking lot along the road to your left. There is a sand road that extends back along the beach but be careful it is soft and has a tendency to eat 2 wheel drive vehicles. Again it is shallow pretty far out. Works from SE to West. Has better waves than Malmo, or at least they come in closer.

Both are pretty beginner friendly and provide great sailing for experienced kiters and windsurfers. If you are less experienced I'd choose the one that is the most side shore.

enjoy
