Kiting Pepin?

Post by tumblemonster »

Some friends are heading to Pepin Saturday. They are bringing windsurfers and kites. I don't windsurf, so if I go it'll be to kite. The wind forcast on iKitesurf is 17-22. They're heading to the Lake City launch. Have any of you kited Pepin?

thanks

Hi
I will try to be there on Saturday to go windsurfing.
Will you be going to the point or park side?
Pete would be the best one to ask for kiting on Pepin.

Kiting off the point is a bit challenging since the launcher has to be up on a hill with trees downwind, while you are in the water over your head. If you are an experienced kiter you could do a drift launch. There are better kite launches on Pepin. Like Hooksala Park.

Be careful the lake offers no good exit strategy. Equipment problems, wind shut offs, etc and you could be floating for a long time.

Suicide if there are a lot of boats on the water ~ Memorial Weekend? Gawkers galore checking you out, getting in your way, slamming their liquor. No one kites down there so you may have an entire cheering section all to yourself.

But if you must, Hok-si-la Park at the end of the beach. Bit of a walk from the parking lot but will be your best bet. It's away from the marina and on the north side of the beach you may encounter few sunbathers.

Hok-si-la Park is north of Lake City, les than a mile. Another option is Roadside Park, 3/4 mile further north. Roadside Park is a good spot to windsurf from. The Point in Lake City would have to be the worst place to kite from due to the marina around the corner...lots of boat traffic.

Best wishes!
