Does anyone have any recommendations on Best kites? I'm looking to get started in kiting, and can't help but think 3 kites for the price of 2 is a goooooood deal.
Also - is there anyone in the Minneapolis area that may be interested in going 2/3-1/3 on a set of three kites?

I had bought a Best nemisis 18m this last winter and I love it, for the money you pay you get a good kite. I would think one place to maybe call is RealKiteboarding out in NC, they use thew Best kites for training and also sell them. I have taken lessons out there three times and I more than trust thier judgement. I also had Alex Peterson sew in all of my kites other than my smallest 8m fuel a relaunch system. I took them out to coon lake to just get used to the new system and it rocks!!! It makes it so easy to get the kite back up in the air after a crash. Anyway I think Best on thier website still has the two kites forthe price of one special going on, so check out thier website. Realkiteboardings website also has a writeup on the kites.
I got in on the 3 for 2 deal also and just got my kites a week ago. I got a 9m Yarga, 13.5m Yarga and an 18m Nemesis. I have flown the 9 and the 13.5 and they are both excellent. Like Scott, I also spoke with folks at RealKiteboarding as I have taken one lesson from one of their instructors in Newport, RI. They swear by them and I am very happy so far with my experience with them and their kites. I use a Naish bar and lines which works fine. You can read a lot of info on Best on Kiteforum.com.

The cutoff for the buy two get one free I think was this Sat. or Sun.. Did you end up getting any? I think they are the best kites on the market (no pun intended) for the price. They are very basic. No bells or whistles, unlike the slingshots, and they fly almost as good. I would recommend getting the yargas or the grunts for MN condidtions.

Tighe would be the one to talk to about the Slingshots. My personal opinion is that sligshots are a very well put together Kite, only flown one this last winter that Tighe let me try and I think it was a GTO model, it flew very very smooth and was really responsive for the type of kite, just my two cents, Tighe would be your man on that question though.
