Newbie looking for advice on how to fly.

Post by Hu Man »

I have been flying stunt foils (Prism 2.8m) for sometime, and just jumped up to a higher quality/performance foil (Ozone LD 4.5m). Noticed a substantial difference and much happier with the change, but think that I may now be a bit over powered for a beginner. I want to get into mountain boarding after mastering the kite controls. Anyone out there holding kiting clinics, or willing to teach a newbie?

The 4.5 should work great on a mountain board! If you live near the twin cities we go out riding at schools most weekends when it's not windy enough to windsurf. Most schools have big grass fields to ride on if you respect them. We ride alot at Monticello HS and Buffalo HS.

Buy some skate pads and a helmet, then go play. I schmacked up my knees last winter demo-ing a foil without kneepads. Kite-boarding Mag has some good instructional info in their early issues. Have fun!! jn

If you have your flying skills down, take Eric up on his offer to ride with the local community. Just watching others will take you a long way...and always start off underpowered.

If you want some basics on kite flying or using a traction kite for locomotion, feel free to give me a hollar.
