Brainerd, you missed it... spinning leash

Post by Eric S »

Oh my gawd. Gull was supper good this morning. Brisket wind from the west. Adam came down and said that there was 4 more kiters in the B area. Cool!

The walk down to the water was good http://www.downhaul.com/misc/030107/images/P1070002.jpg Much snow and no-one using it.

I set my Psycho up out there in lala land...

http://www.downhaul.com/misc/030107/images/P1070001.jpg

Me and Jason had a good time blasting around for a bit. The wind died a bit and Jason cruesed home to grap some chow or somthing.

I stuck around and worked on the "Spinning Leash" that Tighe talked about. I was thinking about this for a bit when I had a 'flash'

Here's the FLASH...

Do this...

Spin the other way after you do a trick. This will unwind the lines and you will be a better boarder.

The only guys that need to "spin the bar" either:

Suck.

Are in a comp. Need to be asymetric on moves..

later.....

Psycho ships with spinning leash.

Post by Tom L »

My Psycho shipped with a spinning leash. Or more correctly a bar that you can unwind after doing a spin and a leash that rotates with the bar. My rotating leash was not installed but came as an alternative to the one they show in the videos on their web site that does not rotate. So I had to install it myself. Did you not get the extra parts for this leash system? The leash system is pictured in detail on this page:

Eric-

Thanks for coming up to Brainerd the last few times. Its cool having Kite company up here. Sorry I cut out early on you. I need to get me a bigger kite. So I can keep up. Your Psycho seems to be working out pretty good for you. I liked the airs you were getting today.

Adam- give us a holler. I'm thinking about going out tomorrow in the slush. Supposed to be good strong wind. Should pull me thru the slush if I did the right wax job!!

Say goodbye to the little bit of white we had. I don't think it can hold on thru two warm days   :( :!: :!:

Thanks Tom, My Psycho shipped also with the rotor leash (not installed). I guess what I was trying to say in my other post was that you don't need one if you mirror your spins on each tack. I'm not that good at spins so I figure I'll get better if I try to do them both ways.

Let the twisted lines tempt you to untwist them with your body, not by flinging the bar. On the other hand, If you are in a contest, It might be advantageous to spin the bar to get more tricks per minute infront of the judges rather than untwisting on the outside.

I will also say that this is a personal challenge of mine this year. Each new move I learn I will try to do it first on my 'weak side'. What I've learned so far is that by doing this it is so much easier to do the same trick on my favorite side after at least trying it on my weak side.

Of course I suck, but my goal this year is to learn how to spin my body, not my bar.

I don't quite get the Flysurfer setup. It looks like the leash would only shorten the back lines by a fairly small amount when you release the bar (and the chicken loop). Does the line go through the bar with the chicken loop? cool.

I'm envious of your session today. The photos seem like a place far far from here. I talked to Adam tonight. He sounds stoked. If they get snow up north again, he offered to host an informal kite event on his lake. If there is snow I'm there.

Today on Calhoun it was water skiing. .5 to 2+ inches of water. Barely any bite. Absolutely gorgeous weather in every other respect.

I like the wake style version of a leash, hold on tight.

learning new tricks on the ice have definetly taken a tole on me, but I know it was a good session if I am sore the next day.

Yes, the safety line goes through bar with chicken loop. Here are some images showing diagrams of Psycho system. Can't post the links because of the way their HTML is written and they are at obscure places on their website.

It was weird, you get to about Millaca and you'd start seeing snow. By the time you got to Mille Lacs it was everywhere. There was as much or more in the Brianerd area. On my way home yesterday I could tell the snow was taking on hit on Mille Lacs, There were lots of icy looking patches where there was just snow hrs before.

I wonder how the Brainerd lakes are holding up.

Eric you missed it today. The Whitefish chain was great. 20mph straight out of the west.

Todd said I had to of hit 55mph on the 440 windwing. when we get some snow we need to hook up.

Sweet. Speed is good!

I think we'll all have to wait for some snow. It was good to know that there are more wake/kiters up there. After you guys get dialed in on the snow you should go huge on the water.

Let us know when the lakes get good again. Keep in touch!
