open water?

Post by Coach »

With this weather in the 40's, it would be a riot to get out and kite or windsurf in January. Does anyone know where we can find some open water for sailing West or NW winds?

Open Water

In my younger days, we'd always sail the Black Dog power plant in January. We usually got in a couple good hours before the police came and kicked us out. The water is quite shallow. but it works quite well for a w or nw wind.

Hey Randy - I remember going down there with you once. I ended up not going out, but you did, and it turned out to be too shallow.

But, I was wondering, what was their reasoning behind kicking you out? We didn't get booted that time, but we weren't there very long... I can't remember if that pond is considered part of the powerplant, or if it's public land and they just didn't want you there...

Coach,
I think it was NSP that called the cops on us. Yes, it's got some shallow spots where a depth meter on your deck would feel better. Still, some of my best speed runs have been there, sailing just next to the ice.
