Hawaiian Pro Begins

Post by Charley »

For the first time in 3 years the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA) is holding the Hawaiian Pro at Hookipa Beach Park. Naturally winds were strong today (15-25) as rain has subsided (for now). Winds are expected to be 10-20 tommorrow as a new low pressure trough makes its way toward the islands. (More rains) Look for Fox Sports Net to cover the event. Not too many radical moves today - table tops and forward loops were somewhat rare. Waves were closing out mostly and breaking about 4 - 6 feet.

Scoring is pretty easy:

1 point for a jump on the way out.
1 point for riding a wave in.

Multipliers for overall style and difficulty. If you could catch air on the way out and ride a wave in you would have advanced today. You needn't have been a rockstar to compete today. Lots of first timers. 4 sailors per heat, best 2 advance. Over 80 sailors entered. Deadline was march 1st.

Kehei was blowin' over 40 today!!!!!
